Hey all!

I'm modeled off the 400 Watt Solar Package W/ Alternator Charging system that Will has blueprinted.

He links to the GoWise 2000w Inverter on that page, but I've read some pretty crappy things about it.

I'm looking at these as alternatives--anyone feel strongly about one or another for any reason?

Afik, all of those inverters except for the weak Renogy are made by samlex...

Yeah,
You tuber David Poz reviewed the 3k and the 8KWh versions (several versions of the 8K...)

You have a recommendation (from my list or otherwise) for my application? Samlex PST seems high quality, but I was hoping to stay under $350.

I understand your need for a 12v system as you probably want to be able to charge via alternator, but pushing a real 2,000 watts with 12 volts is tough. I would rather be using a 24v system for that many watts.

I'm glad you said that, now I get to do some math. :)
2000 watts / .85 conversion factor = 2352.941176471 watts
2352.941176471 / 12 volt low cutoff = 196.078431373 dc amps
196.078431373 * 1.25 fuse factor = 245.098039216 fuse amps
so I would go with 2/0 AWG for the main wire and a 250 amp mrbf main fuse.

Sounds about right. Pulling that 2/0 wire through a van is not my idea of fun.

I've had a good experience with my Kisae.

Their support is next level, I recently emailed them after I broke it (likely due to some recent rough handling), and the support team got back to me that day with a detailed walk through on possible self-repair. When that failed they replaced it for a low cost and couriered the replacement before even receiving payment and without requiring me to ship the old one back.

The new one is even an upgraded model with new software that will be really great for my new diy lifepo4 battery!

This one seems right for me. I'm not using shore power right now, so I wouldn't need the integrated transfer switch.

Price point seems great as well!

Wow that is a great price.

I have this one. I really like it, the remote is convenient and the software gives you lots of options to customize how it operates for your setup, not sure on the inverter-only models. The integrated transfer switch is really convenient but it looks like they sell an add-on transfer switch too. I like the all-in one inverter-charger for convenience and space saving but it is pricey if you don't need that!

As an alternative idea, I would consider shopping for a used pure sine Magnum unit. They are very robust and with high quality and replaceable components if something fails. I had several chinese made inverters and each failed quickly. I think I bought them from the inverter store long ago and each expired within 18 months and with sporadic, non-daily (RV use).

Two used Magnums later, and I've had zero problems.
They can be purchased at about 1/2 price of new on ebay. Looking on craigslist might work, too if you have time and are in a large metro area. Just look for a reputable seller (good ratings).

Really appreciate the input. Something like this? Seems like the other (slightly cheaper) model to look for would be this guy.

Hi,
Yes. The first one is an example. I cannot be certain the second has replaceable components and suspect it doesn't given the small packaging.
Note, the 2800W version MS2812 might also suit you. They share the same case as MS2012 and I'm certain other components.
My only concern about that seller is his / her ratings. 94% on ebay isn't high. There are some noted cases where they didn't pack the item properly. But ebay offers purchase protection. Just read carefully before you bid. Still, a PITA if you have to return.
I bought mine (MS2812) for $800 from ebay and can't remember if that included shipping.
Here's an example of a good seller or at least a more promising one. You might email them if they'd convert to a best offer. No bids on theirs @ $999.
You will also need a magnum remote to configure for LFP. But they aren't expensive. Another $100 to $200. Used, probably less.

Hope that helps.

Doug
