I would recommend that you power the unit off the external power port. When I ran that unit, I found that two cells read 30 mv and 10 mv off. This caused the Balance circuit to " unbalance" the cells. Using a 12 volt buck converter then powering it this way reduced the balance mismatch.

I totally agree .... When I powered mine externally my cell voltage reading are much more accurate.

There is information in the manual about how to do this.
 
I tried supplying 12v and then 24v DC but each time I switch the switch over to external power the BMS completely shuts down like it has no power.
