China customs bans shipping of lithium batteries?

And I am looking forward to not having to work anymore

You don’t have to work now. A couple of lifestyle changes, sacrifice home and cats, and you can participate in the early prototype of comfortable poverty freely available now in the US.

Oh, I didn't tell you, I am a "minimalist", not fanatic as I do like some luxuries, especially a comfortable bed.

Wealth in your country is distributed in a highly unequal fashion, with the wealthiest 1 percent of families in the US holding about 40 percent of all wealth and the bottom 90 percent of families holding less than one-quarter of all wealth. And it is getting worse, at what point does one have enough wealth?

I don't know how any Americans can get by on the minimum wage, when the average monthly health insurance premium alone is about two weeks worth of labour.

What country are you living in? Are you a Socialist?

Sure I guess. More wealth never equals less wealth. And if people don’t like less wealth they should get more.

Imagine if just 20% of the bottom 50% of wage earners used their time better; did something productive for a while, got skills for a better job… instead of the 3.5+ hours of television every day of the week. There’s 3 days’ extra pay every week. And what’s the average monthly cable bill these days?

Wait, you mean four five hours of Xbox a day doesn’t lead to a productive and fulfilling life? You fascist. Bread and circuses for all! Eat the rich!

I'd rather be poor in places like Scandinavian countries, Germany, UK, NZ there you get an apartment to play Xbox and a bit of money to buy food. For what ever reasons most people don't take advantage of those systems... hm wonder how that works...

just don't have health insurance. Not mandatory over there.

you looked at what twitch streamers and ESports Players make these days? It's getting a valid career choice :)

IDGAF what others do with their time. Just don’t expect me or future generations to fund it.

People always do, lets hope they do it through the ballot box instead of using pitchforks, because the latter would be really stupid.

That is the problem, most people can't imagine what it is like for people who do not have the same abilities and drive as they have. It looks so simple.

It doesn’t take rocket science. I’ve offered a few folks help in starting a business. No one wants it. Almost anyone with grit in the west can get mildly wealthy.

The biggest thing that’s creating the wealth gap in the west is obscene levels of money printing. Cantillon effect.

Not every one has grit.

Whatever the causes (there is never a single cause) growing income disparity will always reach a point where it will destroy nations from within.

It is simple- according to army and census statistics it should be relatively simple for over 92% to perhaps 96% of the population in the USA.
Almost anyone with grit in the west can get mildly wealthy.
Unless one makes incredibly poor choices…
I’ve always reminded myself - even when I was poor - that I was wealthier than 88% or more of the world.

Karl Marx mentioned that. I’m not buying it.

You misunderstand me. I’m not talking about redistributing wealth; I’m talking about the results of personal industriousness of individuals. You don’t have to take money from people, you can have other people pay you at a profit for goods, services, labor, and value-added products.
“Healthy inflation” (sic) and corrupt lawmakers along with poor governmental economic policy is what takes money from lower income brackets and deposits it in the hands of higher income individuals and corporations. Stimulus checks for example: a gift to big business.

Oh. Different words. Same results.

WTH??

What do you think people should do at the ballot box to get money?
(Because I believe that is a sure way in the long run to tank the economy and the country.)

That is the problem, most people can't imagine what it is like for people who do not have the same abilities and drive as they have. It looks so simple.

I got yer drive right here! <cancels payment on welfare check>

What do you think people should do at the ballot box to get money?
We are talking about income disparity and the distribution of wealth. What do you think the 90% can do?

The smart thing to do would be to substantially raise the taxes on higher incomes, in order to balance the budget and to reduce the income gap. However I doubt enough people there will vote for that (over in the US you just label it communism or something and voters will shy away) as a result you will see more and more social unrest and more homeless.

You can NEVER balance the budget. Congress will always spend whatever money they can get from taxes, and mortgage the future to spend a bit more. Same goes for funding Social Security; whenever it has surplus revenue, they dip in and blow the money. Back in the early 1980's, the shortage was observed and taxes were increased so it was fully funded. Fast forward to today, that money is blown and the SS account is planned to be depleted by the year I am eligible. So payout is presently maintained at full amount, will suddenly drop down to whatever the SS taxes can redistribute when account is empty.

Oh yes they will vote for it here. Given one vote per warm (or cold) body, not one vote per dollar or one vote per parcel/dwelling unit, our people volte to take from those who have, give to those who do not. Elected city government caps rent increases at a low value (something like 4% per year), then approves 35% increase in water rates. Costs landlord has to cover go up faster than revenue.

There is nothing wrong with those who have less drive having less income and money. If all assets were leveled, whatever drive people do have would be lost. People should get to have and keep the fruits of their labor. If you object to an entertainer earning $100,000,000 per year, don't listed to his music or watch his movies. If you object to a CEO being paid an obscene salary by his corporation, don't buy that company's products. For instance, you could buy vegetables direct from the farmer at a farmer's market, rather than a name brand from the store (I think farmers/ranchers get about 5% to 10% of retail; packing house and grocery store take almost all the rest.)

Those people who are not physically or mentally disabled should be handed a broom, shovel, whatever and told, "If you work, you eat. If you don't you starve."

As for the 90%, what fraction of them choose to spend all of their paycheck and a bit more, whatever the credit card company allows?
Most people who earn plenty of money are perpetually poor. Except for those at the very bottom, modest wealth vs. poverty is simply a choice. It is freedom, and that is what I believe matters most. I think the only proper function of government is for the mutual protection of our freedom.

Jesus Christ!

Why is it that the lazy are always looking for some way to get something for free? Accept your lazy, dont want to work and just be broke. But, no. Instead you will attempt to hand power to a few people and give them the opportunity to get wealthy on the promise they will toss you a few scraps and you can sit on your ass doing nothing. Or you will grab the pitchforks and with their blessing go take it away from people who worked.

If you work, you eat. If you don't you starve.
I wish we had that policy. I’ve needed help a few times but didn’t have the… I don’t know, just couldn’t apply for welfare and I was a single custodial parent to a couple teenage girls. On the other hand I survived and surpassed it; got some paying work the very day I literally spent my last $5 buying a couple days of food and some heating oil in 2009ish, and then some more before that cash dried up.
I would have, however, gone in and said, “what work do you have today?” albeit still with hesitancy due to feeling humiliation.

Taxes are obscene when in my observation ‘we’ only get like 20% efficiency from our tax dollars - and that’s optimistic. Administration is a skew of employment figures.

Why is it that the lazy are always looking for some way to get something for free?
It is not just the lazy who are looking for handouts.

Regardless if you are wrong or right that is what has happened throughout human history.
