Before I tell about my issues, I want to be very clear about my Enphase opinion. My system was installed last September, activated in October and consists of 28 400W Canadian panels mated with Enphase's IQ8A inverters. So far I am very pleased with this match and have seen 350-360W of AC power produced per panel at times. No bitches here. It is a well-thought-out system.
Now lets get to their Envoy which communicates between the system and the user for monitoring. I have filed numerous complaints with Enphase about its reporting problem. They advertise this dog reports the system's performance every 15 minutes! Yeah but only sometimes! My system loses the WIFI connection almost EVERY DAY REQUIRING MANUALLY RESETTING THIS DOG. It connects to my home's WIFI system via a range extender located about 5 feet away with a wooden building wall between it and the Combiner Box where their Enovy is mounted. I firmly believe there is a software deficiency in their design. I was promised a software update is coming someday but my problem remains.
IMHO, that stinking Envoy is the only flaw and it should be fixable. So be warned about what to expect if you plan to use Enphase. Check around, maybe Google for instance. Final comment, I also highly suggest (others I am sure will disagree) using an AC system over a DC system but the choice is yours. An AC sinewave passes through 0 volts at twice the line frequency and therefore reduces arcing problems to almost ''0''. Not so with DC. And all DC wiring by code must be placed inside of metal tubing which maybe is not a big deal. Make your choice only after weighing all aspects of any planned system and good luck.
