I was wiring up my BYDs for my new BMS when I accidentally let go of one of the lines I had attached to one of the cells as I was attaching it to a terminal block. It swung down and welded itself to the main positive terminal. Suddenly smoke was pouring from the battery. I quick grabbed the wire and ripped it off. Fortunately the smoke came from the insulation, not the battery.
Lesson learned? Attach wire to terminal block first, then to cell.

No, burn yourself with something hot enough it leaves a sear mark, very little swelling. Still smarts though. Used to do it all the time taking the racks of baked potatoes out at a restaurant I worked at.
