Question about connecting inverter to emergency subpanel

I have a 4000 watt split phase inverter that I am hoping to be able to connect to a subpanel for backup power. The subpanel was originally installed for a small generator, and I’m wondering if I can connect the inverter to it in the same way I did with the generator. I have a 3 wire cable for this, that plugs into to the cable you can see coming out the top of the subpanel. I see that the inverter wiring diagram shows 4 wires in the AC output, with 1 being the output ground. Is the output ground necessary since the subpanel is grounded? I wasn’t planning on having AC input to the inverter.

You will need one ground connection to the inverter. It doesn't have to be part of your cord.
