  • Post in thread: Inverter/charger bypass question

Do you have any loads using the A and B side split phase @ 240v from the load center? I got a feeling you do. Please confirm. Thanks.
  • Post in thread: How much solar power an batteries would i need to run 15K ac in a travel trailer?

You are welcome. I noticed I typed fast and make a mistakes on SSC it is supposed to be SCC. I typed too fast. Sorry for that confusion. I re-edit to fix that. Good luck.
  • Post in thread: Sol-Ark Inverters 8 and 12K

It comes down to 26% tax credit and cents. You should spreadsheet it out on all the parts and costs. SMA required more parts to get to the same level as Sol-Ark.
  • Post in thread: Question on batteries and minimum solar requirements.

If you plan to get the 24v battery, you will need to run the system at 24v for the SCC. Not sure which 20amp SCC you have, if you read the spec, I am sure it can do it. Make sure it can do 12v/24v. Could you list the SCC brand or spec to double check? For example: Two series(12v+12v=24v...
  • Post in thread: Parallel 1/0 awg or 0 awg to max the amperage

I want to see if I could combine (2) 1/0 awg wires in parallel and not using 4/0 wires. The reason is I have plenty of 1/0 awg copper wires and want to avoid buying 4/0 awg wires. I plan to use it in the 24v system with the EVE 280 batteries. I see the 1/0 awg could handle it if you look at...
  • Post in thread: Inverter/charger bypass question

Another question, how many circuits are on the existing load center panel now? Are all those are critical loads? Could you turn off some when generator is running? I understand what you tried to do. Just need clarifications before I could draw a picture for you. Thanks.
  • Post in thread: Any all in one PTZ camera that has temperature sensor, water leak, humidity alerts?

What about an All-in-one for the remote monitor for the solar shed and equipment out in the elements? I am looking for an All-In-One PTZ camera that could be remotely controlled and has the temperature sensor, water leak and humidity alert notifications via email or phone calls. I know you can...
  • Post in thread: Grid tie inverters info

Not sure which Sunnyboy you have. Some of the SMA inverters have an secure power outlet where you could use that when the grid is down. At least use that to power some loads. But, all Grid-Tie inverters need the grid signal to work(thus, grid-tie) at either 240v/50/60hz depending where your...
  • Post in thread: Parallel 1/0 awg or 0 awg to max the amperage

Plan to max 167amp for a 24v @ 4000w system. (maybe max 200amp?) The manual recommend 4/0 awg wires for the DC battery bank and over current device protections. Also plan to use two BMSs for two 24v 8 cells banks (2P8S). I only have one BMS 24v 100amp so far due to the shortage. So, I plan...
  • Post in thread: Powering a Mint Split unit in an RV by solar and lithium batteries

The ForestAir unit is not a high SEER rated unit. It only has 8.8 SEER. No better than the windows air conditioner. The mini-split is just more efficient on running. Plus his Everlander has no windows like he first said in the video. Less heat from the sun. Good insulation.
  • Post in thread: Anyone else have this problem?

There is still a delay on notifications. Not sure if the traffics for the site is high or slow on the server side. Could someone look into it. Thanks.
  • Post in thread: Spartan automatic transfer switch

  • Post in thread: Shutting down a system for the winter...

In that case, get a battery insulated box to keep it warm. Hope where the wood cabin is located will shielded some of the colds. Or even put a blanket over the battery box to help on the self-discharging.
  • Post in thread: Powering a Mint Split unit in an RV by solar and lithium batteries

Similar questions and answers from another post about mini-splits in an RV. Always a trade off with designs and engineering. https://diysolarforum.com/threads/powering-a-mint-split-unit-in-an-rv-by-solar-and-lithium-batteries.9803/post-107243
  • Post in thread: Grid tie inverters info

I see you got the SMA SI6048. That one doesn't have the secure power outlet when power goes out. It will required a battery to feed it. You will need the same model if you want to use it at 240v split phase, or use an auto transformer to make 120v to 240v. The Sunnyboy will be able to...
  • Post in thread: AC Coupling for off grid applications

For the micro-inverters to work OFF-Grid applications, like a micro-grid, you would need a battery-less expensive inverters like Sol-Ark, Sunnyboy with Secure Power Supply or Outback Skybox to have run in offgrid application. Why not get the cheap MPP PIP inverters that could do batteryless...
  • Post in thread: Is it ok to run AC and DC wirings together inside the conduit?

Is it code compliance to run both AC @ 240V and DC @ 200V in the same conduit? I had wires ran long ago that planned for AC generators along with live 240VAC wires for air conditioners, but never used the spare wires. Only the air conditioner wires are live. I plan to use the spare wires in...
  • Post in thread: Class T fuse and breaker?

Do you need both DC Circuit Breaker and T-Fuse? From the Mangum manual (below), it sounds like you can get away with the DC Breaker with Overcurrent protection device. Could someone confirm? T-Fuse are hard to find these days. " For safety and to comply with electrical code regulations, you...
  • Post in thread: Victron Quattro vs Schneider Electric Conext XW+ 6848 PRO

Victron, you can use Raspberry pi to install their open source control panel and it will work if you want to save a few bucks. Best to let @SolarQueen guide you since they have a warehouse in PR post Maria. I have emailed them in the past with questions on the products. It comes down to...
  • Post in thread: BMS performance

Are you using three Overkill BMSs for the 8s3P? That could explained the no voltage dip. Or was just one 123smartbms 3p8s not enough amperage?
  • Post in thread: What LifePo4 BMS for 14S battery at 46.2v nominal ?

Hi, New here. I need help with a BMS recommendation for an odd 14S lifepo4 battery with at least 100a for a 48v system. I know 16S is ideal, but my inverter could take the low 36v and 64vdc. It is not in the sweet spot of 16S, but I believed the 14S would do for the range of 46.2v to 38vdc...
  • Post in thread: More newbie questions

It comes down to panel being shaded or not. Total powers will be the same. 2P2S : A(1+2) B(3+4) Parallel AB The above case, any shades on 1 and 2, the output be to the lowest current of the shaded panel. Thus, lower power for the string. 2S2P: A( 1 2 Parallel) B(3 4 Parallel) Series AB...
  • Post in thread: new ones just arrived

  • Post in thread: Solar panels for milk crate build.

Any 100 to 200 watts panels are plenty to charge the 50ah battery if you have 4 to 5 hours of daily sun. More watts charge faster.
  • Post in thread: Grid tie inverter help

You need to be code compliance to feed to the grid. This vendor PluginSolar does the 120v for N.A. with their micro inverters. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008AQS4AY/ref=as_sl_pc_ss_til?tag=pluginsolar-20&linkCode=w00&linkId=HOKO2HCRSOOJ5ACJ&creativeASIN=B008AQS4AY I haven't see any 120v micro...
  • Post in thread: Uninterruptible power supply for solar generator?

It will work. The main concern is continuous load. UPS typical rated 20mins time when running at full load. For example, if the UPS rated 1000VA, the wattage could be like 800W rated in real world usage for 20 mins. Plus the transformer and MOSFETs might not be able to power the device due...

  • Post in thread: Hi folks!

There are RV videos that people installed them and use DC battery power with generator for power assist. It looks like the newer model is pure DC. Here is the older 2015 video of Engineer775 did the install and test their hybrid model at a house. 3 x 325W panels and 90 Watt of AC power...
