What Mini-Split did you use, and Why?

Just as a data point I will add, my 3 units handled -3F no problems vs "5F" rating. Youtuber @SmitHVAC showed they have compressor heat so I think once in a while arctic blast use should be OK, there is no condenser pan heat though so if your climate is 0F continuously you'd have an iceberg building ? ?
On a side note, I did spray foam insulation in our 4000 sq ft building.
7" on the roof, 2 1/2" on the walls.
The building stayed 50 and above during a 4 day stretch below freezing.
With no heat input yet...
So that was encouraging. My LiFePO4 battery bank never got too cold.

Have you ever lost the wifi on one? WIfi indicator light does not come on the head unit....deleted from the app on my phone, won't re-connect.

I have not. @MrM1 had a wifi fiasco, if he doesn't come in, I will go review what he concluded in a conversation. I DO have this going on with BOTH 12K units...when you set app and remote to Fahrenheit, then alternate control from app to remote and vice versa, unit switches back to degrees C.

Perhaps someone has seen this on another brand. Deye makes the EG4 indoor/outdoor units (for real. They are not modded Midea / Gree or whatever rebrands), but I bet they "bought" the remote from a third party (?)

Looks like the remote is displaying Fahrenheit, and the head unit is displaying Celsius. 79°F = 26°C

Yeah, it's switching when you change control between remote <-> app, where all was setup degrees F...

I would think I'm doing something wrong, but my 24k doesn't behave like that. Both 12k's do it.

On a positive note, I'm getting real keen on mental degrees C<->F conversion :ROFLMAO:

Yeah MrM1 said he had a router range problem. I do have a wifi extender on 2nd floor. If this is your shop unit, I use TP-Link Nanostation equipment hundreds of feet between buildings in my Colorado place.

I assume we better take this to the EG4 thread if we discuss it much more or be accused of derailing this thread :) :ROFLMAO:

Yea that is why I like to use the app to change temps.....one is working fine, the other has not wifi indicator light on the head unit....bummer.

The new mother board was a waste of my time. No change. The "follow me" feature is really a "f my time and power use" feature. That what iit was the whole time.
We have something like that follow me feature on a Mitubishi mini split in my wife's shop. The mini split itself is fantastic, but that's a completely worthless feature in my view. Sometimes marketers and engineers build things in just because they can - doesn't mean it was a good idea.

The nice thing about what this feature is supposed to do is shut the head unit's fan off once the set temp is reached. It doesn't, but it does use a stupid amount of power trying to do so, which is a double shot of stupid.

If I do another mini, I'll give the EG4 a shot w/panels for it only. Sig Solar's customer service is probably the best I've personally ever experienced and it appears that their products are of very good quality. I went with Senville thinking I'd spread the risk, not having all my new electronic eggs in one basket. Damn!

@Gotshocked! , note that the Senville Aura comes with a remote and should come with the Alexa USB device for integration, not the typical Senville app. Check if still the case, if so you can control it by remote, Alexa voice device or Alexa App and works fine if you need 'remote' control capability. I have since added a Sensibo Air simply to test integration with Home Assistant which also works great.

Alexa App:

The Alexa app just sucks.

I own a Pioneer with added on universal wi fi adapter and the app is great.

Alexa sucks, just plain sucks. I gave Senville a 1 star review due to the crappy Alexa app and the inability of the wi fi module to only work with Alexa.

Most likely I will spend the money for a universal wi fi adapter and remove the USB Alexa wi fi adapter.

I am the worst. I bought another senville. the deal was good and I do think senville is towards the top of these mini's. it's almost complete and then the hvac tech that did my 1st mini will do this one early next week. I like the eg4 but cannot justify spending more loot on more panels and trying to fit them in somewhere. The 1st aura is great, just the follow me feature blows, so i'm sure it'll blow on this unit as well.
This is the floor/ceiling version of the aura series, so it'll heat down to -22, not that it gets that cold here though last winter we did get a night down to -6. The plastic on the ground is too prevent the dirt from making a mess until i develope this area to grow veggies.
The lines, drain & comm cables run under the unit into the crawl space.

Looks nice.
Be sure to cover that foam on the li es.
Sunlight will destroy it in little time.

I have 3 mr cools. I'm just finishing the 3rd install. I have a smaller 110 v 12k unit about 6 years old (second or 1st generation)and an 18k unit put in in 2021 3rd Generation 220v . and now another 4th generation 18k 22v unit. I have done custom installs hiding the extra line sets in attic or under house. Hid the line sets in vinyl line set sleeves as well.Been super happy with them. I use supplyhouse.com for all that stuff.I do all the work myself but I have worked as a sparky so it easy.

@Gotshocked!, I love our Senville 24k and was just looking into that same wall/floor mount in 18k. Need to mount on a wall about 6” above floor. Can the line sets and drain come in from the back of it?

That's where I am leaning too.. mostly because EG4 has no 9000 btu ones that are 240 volts.
and pioneer isn't that close efficiency wise

Yes they can. Originally, that's how I planned to mount it. There's sections of the sheet metal that can be punched out on all over the bottom and the back.

I just noticed that a few models of MrCool mini-splits are on sale at Costco.com. It ends tomorrow! I just ordered a 4th gen 12k BTU. Looking back at my records, it looks like Costco has these MrCool units on sale once a year, usually in April. I'm glad I caught the sale because I've been wanting to add a second mini-split.
