EG4 18kPV Q+A general thread

Did anyone else's solar assistant stop working today from the 18kpv? Mine was working fine today until about an hour ago and now it's not showing any data... the eg4 monitoring app is working fine, so I'm not sure what's going on.

edit: nevermind! I restarted the raspberry pi and it started working again.

I'm still not seeing the additional battery information with my 2x PowerPro's and 18kpv.

Batteries on T17 firmware, 18kpv latest firmware, Lithium 1 selected, and I'm out of ideas on things to try.

Any suggestions?

y0baily, thank you for all the posting on your 2nd battery install. It has help me out a lot. Question, I notice your BMS Limit Charge is 400A, I thought the default was 100A per battery? Is there a way to change this? Thanks

The new firmware for the power pro automatically bumped things to 200a per battery, and the inverter coms picked it up automatically.

I didn't need to change a thing after firmware update

The search function appears to be down or I would search for this... alas!

After months and months of sifting through bureaucracy and waiting, I'm finally about to receive approval to operate on my interconnect agreement. I want to make sure I understand the settings I'll need to set for my 18kpvs to be start selling back to the grid, under these specific circumstances:
1) If my batteries are charged to 100%, start exporting to grid
2) prioritize local consumption first
3) export to grid everything possible after that

^ The only setting I see that's relevant is the "Grid Sell Back" and "Grid Sell Back Power." Can I configure it to only export once my batteries are charged?

This can be configured in the PV Charge Priority portion of the settings.

Oh, weird. That seems to indicate that you can force it to prioritize charging the battery first over the loads... what happens if that setting is enabled and a load exceeds the amount of solar production? I want the order to be:
1) Power loads
2) Charge batteries to X%
3) Export the excess to grid

That is the default behavior.

Ah ha! So assuming I'm already set up for "self-consumption mode" (which I am already set up for and is working great: solar->battery->utility INPUT), then I just need to turn on grid export, and the rest should just work as-is? 🤔

That is correct. I have mine in that configuration and it works well.

That would be correct.
Uh. I just tried enabling that setting, and it isn't exporting anything to grid... what am I missing? There's an "off-grid" setting that was enabled, so I tried disabling that, but that just turned off my solar inputs and started importing from grid. ?!

Here's my setting page:

Oh weird, it just changed - I left the setting alone with off-grid disabled, and the grid export appears to have started now (but it took about 10 minutes):

If your batteries are shared and not in independent mode then you only need 1 dongle for the master.
Just installed 1 dongle on master, however now my slave inverter stats are not showing up... how do you get it to show both inverters on the app?

I need to update the firmware on my PowerPro. Can I turn off the battery breaker in the 18k PV while it's receiving PV and Utility power to keep it up while I update the firmware to the battery or do I need to shut the whole thing down while I update the battery?

I'm leaning towards no because 3.2.5 in manual says to avoid disconnections while 18k is operating.

No reason that shouldn’t work. Just make sure you disconnect all battery comms wires and do both RS232 and RS485 upgrades. You might want to check that your inverter(s?) are up to date as well.
