Future of DIY LiFePO4 looks bleak…

"the thread drift here is mind-numbing......"
Kinda goes with the OP's implication that DIY batteries have no future because of price declines. Society reduces everything to a simple, bottom line monetary calculation; people give up on knowledge and direct involvement with the technological environment; and eventually you find yourself flooded by idiots and hazardous junk.

This is jumping to conclusions of course, but if we don't pay attention to the indicators, that crap seems more likely to happen.

It happens. We tend to let it happen. The reasoning is that if there are threads with specific issues/questions, they likely get answered for OP in the first or second page or so. However, threads that then go off-topic tend to become interesting discussions (well, not always, but I digress...), often times going into nitty-gritty details and the like which we think is valuable compared to just locking a thread and policing topics. Anyone can stop following a discussion at any time.

I'd like to know exactly who thought this was an "improvement".
I encountered one of these for the first time last week. A truck owner offered to let me siphon some gas from him to give me enough to get my motorcycle to a station. I pulled out my brand new, specially designed fuel siphon kit and tried to grab half a gallon. Even with a screwdriver I couldn't get past both valves to shake the siphon starter, or even tell if the feeder reached the supply. Apparently only dirt and grime are capable of that.

I dont think the future of DIY lifepo4 is all that bleak. You may have different options, but I dont think its going away anytime soon.
There may be less incentive to do it. But if you want certain components, you will likely need to do it yourself.

Just an FYI, you can get past the valves with a hard tube, like a polyethylene plastic tube or nylon. But anything soft wont work. I have drained fuel tanks with hard plastic tubes connected to a electric fuel pump. Not easy, but it can work.

This is just protectionism. That and an apparent desire to feed your local mechanics. I won't own any of the three due to maintenance needs.

Once you figure out that a Toyota just keeps running, you tend to quit looking at other brands.
Nobody buys Camrys. They are not a desirable car in Europe. Compared to Audi, BMW and Merc, they are ugly.

Obviously they don't keep them beyond their factory warranty period. To do otherwise is to roll the dice with very poor odds. Also generally in Europe public transport is a viable option while the car is at the dealership for extended warranty repairs. :)

We see very few Camry in Europe. Far more Audi, BMW, Mercedes
You guys also have way more Dacia Sandaros & VW Polos than we do, lol

People here are different animals than you guys in car buying needs.

Tell someone over in Europe you just spent +$70k USD on a VW Passat, you’d get congrats on your sweet ride.

Tell someone in the US you spend $70k USD on a Passat, and they’d say you got taken for a ride.

Auto buying public is utilitarian here, def seems more of a luxury item over there.

If most of the cars in Europe are actually still manual ( and I could not find any numbers either way) it won't be very shortly since most of the cars sold are no longer manual.
2020 manual cars covered still approx 55% of sales in Europe. Today 32% or so.
Going to take couple of years before half of the cars on the road are automatic.

I agree, one can purchase something like the Luyuan box or a cabinet like I like to use (I have both Luyuan boxes and 2 cabinets) and with the current price of what is considered Grade A cells, one can build a battery for about the same money with almost 3 times the capacity.

Pennies add up with larger bank sizes. I'm currently building another 58Kwh cabinet like the one below and I will have about $8K to $8.5K in it done, that includes BMS's and shipping. Taking the EG4 Wall mount indoor battery it would take 4 at $3299 each plus shipping to equal the Kwh for a total of $13,196. It would take a pair of the 6 battery server racks at $7443 plus shipping each for a total of $14,866.

The demise of the DIY LFP battery was a myth......

Please note that I did not say Camry, I said Toyota. I prefer the Highlander myself. Just add fuel, oil, and tires. Oh, and brakes every now and again.

My son had a VW Passat that had an issue with the plastic heater core. What a pain in the neck to fix that. The next fun was changing the timing belt. You have to remove the entire front of the car to get to it. No thanks (although I did have fun creating a tool to hold the crank in position).

Is that a used control cabinet?
Roughly what do you buy them for $ wise?
I was thinking of doing the same thing.

One of the neat features of some forums is voting (thumbs up/down) which floats helpful/useful responses up to the top right under the OP while sinking unhelpful posts down lower in the thread.

Forums of this structure are chronological and so it can take a long time to sift though to find the useful stuff.

Chronological structure makes sense for chit chat and general discussions but voting/floating/sinking is way more helpful when the post is an OP support question.

Hoffman electrical box, you can find used ones on Craigslist and FB Marketplace. This the thread showing my bank build. That box was 52W x 12D and it was tight. The current box I'm building for the shop bank is 62W x 20D and this will be easy as I have more room for fuses, busbars and this will have JK BMS's. The house box has a Batrium, the CORE plus all K9's had to be mounted on the end as shown in the thread photos. I should have room to mount the JK's inside the larger box and I'll have a panel on the end for the displays. I've been video taping progress on it, and might have some of the early parts on Youtube soon. I'm at the stage of building shelves and mounting a few things but if weather is fairly cool I have been working on my array. I have about 3 different videos in progress as I build this system.

I never pay over $200 for these boxes.

Yes, but they discourage discussion. So you end up with essentially a wiki and no interaction, debate, discussion. You'll get a few 'power contributors' that do it for the scores, and you end up with a dead forum.
