I just learned that Signature Solar is now taxing customers in Florida. Did any laws change in the new year so that that they now have to tax Florida customers?

I just ordered some panels from them few days before end of the year. Lucky me lol.

List

(d) All solar energy systems manufactured or sold in the state must meet the standards established by the center and shall display accepted results of approved performance tests in a manner prescribed by the center, unless otherwise certified by an engineer licensed pursuant to chapter 471 using the standards contained in the most recent version of the Florida Building Code.

Soon SS might not be allowed to sell in Florida

That part was added in 2017. It been on the books since 1976. I am not sure why that law even exists.

Floridians don't pay sales tax when purchasing a solar energy system, regardless of the size of your system. However, you must use solar equipment certified by the Florida Solar Energy Center to qualify for the exemption.

Maybe that’s why SS taxes now. Don’t know?

I was ordering two EG4 Lifepower4 batteries, the same that I ordered in December, when I noticed $196.35 tax added. That's quiet a big chunk of change. I notice that other out of state companies not charging any tax on those batteries. Maybe DIY Floridians should take their business elsewhere?

@SignatureSolarJess Can you comment? It does not look like solar panels are subject to sales tax in FL.

From the screenshot, it looks like there is a 7% sales tax, which is 77.97.

SS did this for MN also. I just needed to fill out the MN sales tax exemption form and send it to SS to have in my file.

Try this:

It looks like this was updated on Monday. I am looking into this further but it does look like we have to tax Florida customers.

Thank you for the tag @AntronX ?
