EG4 18k firmware update failure

I am unable to update the firmware on my new EG4 18kpv.

I switch my phones wifi to the EG4 dongle and press
CONNECT DEVICE AND UPDATE
I select TCP Connection
I see error
connect dongle of device failed

I have tried
- 4 different Samsung Galaxy Note phones.
- restarting app
- restarting inverter

I'm completely stumped.

Put your phone in airplane mode and try again.
Make sure your phone does not disconnect from the inverter dongle because it see's no internet through it.

Tried:
- airport mode: on/off
- location: on/off
- blue tooth: on/off

Tried a windows laptop. If fails to connect.
Nothing works

I've asked signaturesolar.com to next day a new dongle.

Can you connect to the dongle thru Wi-Fi first before going into the app. When I had my Wi-Fi dongle I never could get it to connect to Wi-Fi but I always could connect to it locally. I have the cellular one now so that's not an option anymore.

That won't work.
You first open the app while connected to wifi to download the firmware.
Then you switch the wifi to use the dongle.

You must open the app first so you can download.

You can leave the app after you download it. I only was able to do one update before switching dongles but that's how I did it download then connect then go back in the app and do update. Are you able to local connect at all? I wouldn't be surprised if you had a bad dongle thou because i spent a couple days trying to get mine to connect to various hot spots and even got a mobile compatible router and tried it to no avail. But i could always connect to it locally and see everything.
