Usually the advice is monitor temperature, stop if it gets too high.
In your situation, I think it is to not freeze your naked b*tt off while checking.
Put your frozen food out on the porch and unplug freezer? (unless you're in bear country)
You should be able to just unplug freezer for the night, let contents coast.
Once system has reached the point where power accepted by battery is reduced, I think this will let it be driven to a higher state of charge than when partially discharged each night.

a freezer says voltage is 23.4 when no solar is coming in and drops to 23.1 by morning when running and when not it says 24.2.
