Future of DIY LiFePO4 looks bleak…

I can build 60kwh of 305ah cells with seplos BMS and case for 8357 where can you buy 6 for 9k
Got her down to two for $3000 DDP. I may buy and be the guinea pig…haha.

Having them add a 200A DC breaker and trying to talk them into adding active balancing module for the PACE BMS. But their engineers are telling me no need…

Those engineers are wrong and the Pace BMS is not very good. All part of buying a cheap battery with poor specification

Have a look at off grid garage Utube channel. He revues all the BMSs in detail. The PACE didn't rank well. The JK BMS is his preferred BMS.
He has made many videos on BMSs. Any recent one in particular?

no offence

yet, he still has to test if these new option actually work......

furthermore... youtube should be taken as informational....

I am not referring to the latest JK BMS. I am referring to the previous version. It's tried and tested. Reliable and cheap. If uou watc. Andys videos you will know that he still believes the older version is the best FET based BMS, until such times as he proves the new version

I pricied out some prebuilt from Amy with Eve V3 cells and JK BMS. https://diysolarforum.com/threads/who-is-still-building-diy-batteries.68809/post-909589

With freight it came in fairly reasonable. https://diysolarforum.com/threads/who-is-still-building-diy-batteries.68809/post-911334

Still on the fence about which direction to go. If cell prices continue to drop, I might still DIY.

I am happy that I started with factory racks, to get me started, then did DIY, which is fun.
If you like being in Total Control of your gear, I highly recommend DIY.
I expect the technology will continue to change, perhaps quickly. I feel the change from 12 to 24 to 48 volt is unlikely to stop here. If new inverters in the future use some higher voltage I am confident and capable to re-arrange my current cells to match. Likewise, if a new and better BMS comes out, I have no issue to swap out my existing ones. I think it just makes more sense for me to be flexible. And it is fun.

This!
I'm trying to keep the same type / capacity of cells in quantities of 32 so I can easily move to 96V banks if needed.
Currently I have 32 230ah and 16 305ah (I'll be adding 16 more) , +1 spare of each, part of me wishes I had stayed with the same cell from the get go but sometimes you just can't pass up a great deal...

I suppose anyone with SOK, or any other user serviceable, packs could upgrade to higher voltages fairly easy as well.

Interesting thoughts on the 96v.
In regards to user serviceable prebuilts. Do you know of any besides SOK? I was looking this weekend for shits n giggles and couldn’t find

well seplos.. you can order the mason's as complete assembled units too
same goes for the Docan rebadged versions of it
Yeah I meant more of the 100ah type stuff. Not that I’m opposed to seplos at all

I have swapped out the BMS on one of my DIY packs from the Chargery to the JK BMS .... It's kind of amazing how much better the balancing is working with the JK .... and the Chargery has pretty good balancing compared to some of the others with passive balancing.
