Half price electric cars

I have taken one cross country trip an several dozen trips up and down the California Coast in eitght years and the cost per mile was significantly less than if I had done it it a gasoline car. I had one that had 115,000 miles on it and I never had to change the oil or do the brakes. I bought tires and two 12 volt batteries. I do not know where you are getting your numbers but that has not been my experience. I am not trying to change your mind, I just want other readers to see another viewpoint so they can make up their mind based on realistic assumptions.
The cost in $ I’m sure is lower.
How about time?
 
More importantly a luxury brand of electric cars that don't have marketing close to any other manufacturers and they're way over priced during a global inflation.

I'd consider a fisker at half price. You can charge it off sunlight and the tailgate window rolls down. And if I'm not wrong, it has that specific slice of the market cornered!
 
So why aren't more people buying EV's if they are cheaper overall?
same reason why people don't buy 50lb bags of beans.. up front cost looks too much and they are scared of the fiber

Need to tax the bad more than provide incentives on the good.
I believe a $1,000 tax per cylinder would do more than the $7,500 EV credit.

I sure as hell tell everyone to avoid tesla and any other luxury anything though, so not that surprising they're going lower

Wish the chinese actual mopeds (with pedals and motors) were legal in the states

Time? You mean how long did those drives take? Not much longer than in a gas car. I am old and have to pee every two hours and stretch my legs or I get stiff. By the time I have done that the car is charged and I am ready to got to the next stop. My wife did get a speeding ticket in Wyoming for going 95MPH while I was sleeping in the front seat. We also found a lot of Superchargers near restaurants so by the time we had a bite to eat the car was charged. Superchargers are everywhere along the Interstates.
 
If I drive that far in a rush then I am in an airplane.
Great American road trip was never about going 800 miles per day. Route 66 is closer three weeks to go 2400 miles.

Well, 82 was the first chevy i guess... diesel cars were a thing in 78, i had one.
Looks like trucks didnt get one till 82.

It depends on who you talk to and who you are talking about. Tesla is doing fine and has no problem dropping prices to keep volume up. That is a good thing for EV adoption. The Korean cars seem to be selling well. Detroit seems to be in a tough transition.

Looks like trucks didnt get one till 82.
There were in 1970s, chevy came out with theirs in 1982.. looks like ford did as well
but GM had them as well in 1978
Even dodge had one:
In 1978, Dodge's partnership with Mitsubishi resulted in the 6DR5 diesel being available in the 1978

I am hearing some Gossip from my old friends in engineering that Musk is having a lot of financial issues.
It would not be surprising considering EV sales have dropped and Starlink/SpaceX is losing money on every Falcon 9 launch with Starlink Satellites.
He is most certainly in the heavy spending phase when it comes to Starlink and he has burned a lot of cash on that Stupid X platform.

All I know is that the Model Y is the best selling car in several markets. I do see Tesla is advertising on the Internet. I have four tenants who work at SpaceX and they are still paying rent early or on time. No doubt Musk blew a lot of money on X and his politics may be costing Tesla some sales. You could be right and that is the tip of the iceberg. I have followed some of the Tesla teardowns and the constant improvement and cost reductions may give them a strategic advantage in this soft market.

The price per kWh when doing DC fast charging is generally much higher than your residential rate, presumably due to demand charges being paid to the utility. Delta differs a fair bit based on location/state.

Oh, for sure, the charging stations are a profitable business.
Of course it is higher than residential power at home.

Its faster, and available away from home, so it costs more.
 
And, solar is apples and oranges. Far as I know, people are opting for solar as a choice. Those that see the benefit go for it, others have no interest. No mandates to turn off my grid by 2030 and have solar only.
There are plenty of solar mandates at the utility level. That's the main reason you can buy panels for $0.30/W instead of $30.
CA mandated all new houses have solar. Though there are loopholes.
Solar also benefits from large subsidies. Always has.

No US state bans ICE (internal combustion engine) cars. A couple have non-binding "resolutions" to stop new ICE sales by 2035. Even if those don't get extended or watered down (narrator: they will), you can still drive your 2034 Canyonero well into the 2060s. Maybe not in certain cities after 2050, but that's no loss. As Fox News explains anyone driving into a liberal big city is instantly murdered by a fentanyl-crazed illegal immigrant anyway.
