Did I have a weird dream about Will adding a 'dislike' button?

People sometimes give me the sad face. :(

I take that to mean they disagree, or on rare occasion, that they feel bad for my pain and suffering.

If there's a option for misinformation and say 4 or more press it the post could be striked out or have a warning "this is BS"

I imagine some of the more contentious threads involving certain vendors could suffer from gangs of thugs on both sides with that feature.

Didn't see this need for policing coming. I always thought for the most part members were quick to set things straight. There are really only a few agitators, and I would think the mods could deal with them with warnings. If this place gets too sterile, it's going to get boring.

Very true and I wouldnt police much like I already avoid, but if the most recent post is about walmart parking lots or bbq chicken, and someone started the thread about a very specific problem, its just turning into a chit chat corner. Thats all

Hey, they do BBQ chicken at our Walmart parking lot every weekend in the summer. Never tried it, but it smells really good.

Sorry, I'll go to the corner now....

Maybe we need a shocked (as in electrocuted) emoji. It seem like it would be pretty relevant and important given the site's subject matter. They might be the response I need as start rewiring my RV in the next few weeks and am sure I will have some questions where these may be the appropriate response.

This I like, pleasant enough way of saying someone posted crap that will hurt you or your equipment.
Can you find a nice RTFM ?

I need to think of some form of punishment for people that continue to sidetrack threads as well. If you guys have any ideas let me know
Non.

I'm on a forum that have more than 1 miljoen user.
And it happens.
Only solution is that the offtopic part go hidden after some people do dumps down.
You can see this systeem by .

Ces't la vie, all good things must come to end... Note how some folks have already begun to peel away from here.
In general the forum has become less enjoyable place for me. It's the only forum I've ever thought it necessary to apply a block to other members and I'm starting to wonder why I am here.

The best forum I engage in has very sharp and rapid moderation. Off-topic posts are just straight up deleted as are any form of personal attack. New threads on an already covered topic are deleted (and poster is instructed to go to the existing thread).

There is also the Stack Exchange approach with a reputation score but also strong moderation. Best answers float up to the top of the topic.

Sadly, I also have a populated IGNORE list. Not too many <12 collected over the years. I can say 2 of them because of racist kind of krud & I think Will actually banned those 2 pretty quick. A couple of others who delighted in trying to be passive fire starters and the rest well...

I actually liked the dislike button :-(

I guess lots of people disliked the dislike button introduction thread and not enough people liked it so it was canned.

The only Quick React on internet should be when i have instant regret for impetuous emails sent.

As far as opinions I’m far more interested in what and who people like than what they dislike.

What about adding that triangle international symbol for caution indicating further investigation should be done. That is far less emotional.

Maybe to keep things on topic, the mods/Will can just post one of these.

It would still be good to have another way of responding to posts that are:
  • Completely wrong
  • Dangerous
  • Or you just don't agree with
You have the option to respond with your own posts. Discussion on topics is where people learn. Simply branding a post does not enable learning.

Just a thought, but most threads go off topic only after the subject has been dealt with.
And often, because it is kept active with off topic, it sometimes comes back around because it stays visible and others get a chance to comment on the original subject.
I agree with Tulex. Some of the most interesting and informative posts have been ones that are off topic or at least topic adjacent from the original post.
I feel that what you have now is working and engaging. If it starts to get too regulated or restricted the forum will become less interesting. People will stop being such regulars. What you have now is working well, be careful making changes.
