Victron is Over-priced Eurotrash. Why would anybody buy Victron over an AiO?

Got the 450/100 over 5kW with the Aptos string added. Partly cloudy and shady day, battery got into absorption too soon to see if so could get to the full 100A charge rate.

Two of the mnedc250s hooked up for test fit, prob could gone a little bit shorter in the jumpers but I didn't want get too close to the negative bus bar.

You do realize the little caps that come with new batteries are just decorative and a fire hazard verse meant to be used aas an insulator?

And I would for sure put an unsulator betweent the back of the breaker and the battery. Or the cable boots on them before putting the lynx lid on.

I actually put cable boots on every cable I make, I figure whatever it is connected to should be insulated.

Yes that's just sitting there temporarily it will all eventually be wall mounted. Good point on getting boots.

Finalizing the last bits of how everything is going to be done and I think I've settled on this guy: https://www.currentconnected.com/product/midnite-solar-mntransition-box/

Bring the output from the PV disconnects into these which will facilitate connecting my SPD's for each string. It seems like, I remember seeing the Victron RS450/100 they want finer stranded wire coming into and out of it than the regular PV wire. Or am I imagining that?

Yes just saw those the other day. Perfect to transition from chunky pv wire to windynation power flex cable or similar.

I got some great edge effect today, I was wondering why Victron suggests 125-150A fusing for a 100A controller (I'm using 125A) but then I see numbers like this, approaching 125A albeit momentarily.

I used 1/0 for the SCC to distributor wires, erred on the conservative side though could prob get away with much less.

Finally reached the limits of my 48/1200, the additional 500W load meant it was sometimes getting to the 1400W+ range when the fridge or freezer compressors kicked in. Logical choice seems to be an additional 48/1200, that I can dedicate to the ac unit, will also give me some available capacity to add a second ac unit on there.

Not that easy to find the specs indicated by Victron. Searching the terms from the Victron manual, e.g. “tri-rated” doesn’t turn up that much.

If you dig into the Northern Arizona wind and solar website, they seem to have wire that qualifies.

The windy nation is perfect for that:

Just a shout-out to their service, I ordered 40 feet of their 1/0 late Friday afternoon after their same day shipment cutoff and they still shipped it out that day from CA for free 2 day fedex delivery for me In NY, received on Tuesday.

Media Statement
For Immediate Release
17 June 2024
VICTRON SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT WORTH R14m REFERRED TO TRIBUNAL
The Competition Commission (Commission) concluded a settlement agreement worth R14 232 581 with
Victron Energy B.V. (“Victron”) to the Competition Tribunal (“Tribunal”) on 06 June 2024. The settlement
agreement is in respect of the Commission’s complaint referral against Victron for alleged minimum resale
price maintenance.

On 11 December 2023 the Commission referred a complaint against Victron to the Tribunal for allegedly
engaging in the practice of minimum resale price maintenance from March 2020 to at least the end of 2022
in contravention of section 5(2) of the Competition Act (89 of 1998), as amended. Victron develops and
sells electric power conversion products for mobile and other off-grid applications which includes products
such as sine wave inverters, sine wave inverter/charges, battery chargers, DC/DC converters, transfer
switches, battery monitors, batteries, solar panels, solar charge regulators and many more.

In its complaint referral the Commission alleged inter alia that Victron largely relied on its distributors to
implement and to enforce the practice of minimum resale price maintenance in respect of Victron products
sold by online stores to end users in South Africa. The Commission further alleged that Victron published
a recommended retail price list on its website from time to time and provided updated pricelists to its
distributors on a quarterly basis. Although the list indicated that it is a recommended price, Victron, in
practice insisted on a maximum discount from its recommended retail price list when the Victron products
are sold to end customers by online stores.

In addition, it was alleged that Victron instructed its distributors to ensure that its online store customers
comply with the maximum discount practice by threatening to either lower the discount provided to the
distributor by Victron or by stopping supply to the distributor. The distributor would then in turn use similar
threats of either lowering the discount provided to the online store by the distributor or by stopping supply
to its online store customer to ensure compliance.

During the investigation Victron asserted that the principal objective of the pricing discussions was to
address the issue of end customers being sold Victron products without being provided with the
appropriate after-sales and technical support and it has denied liability for a contravention of the
Competition Act. The Commission maintained that the conduct amounts to a contravention of section 5(2)
of the Competition Act regardless of any justifications that may be proffered by the firm involved.
In terms of the settlement agreement, Victron does not admit that it contravened the Competition Act, but
has agreed to pay R14 232 581 and, to ensure compliance with the Competition Act going forward,
implement a competition law compliance program in respect of all its employees, management, directors
and agents who participate in any commercial activities in South Africa.
The settlement agreement has been referred to the Tribunal and once confirmed, will bring to an end the
complaint referral proceedings currently before the Tribunal against Victron.

Huh. Minimum pricing agreements are very common in the U.S.
Not sure on U.S current law. When I was studying business law ages ago, Sherman Antitrust Act deemed minimum pricing agreements as illegal until Leegin Creative Leather Products, Inc. v. PSKS, Inc. case law changed it into evaluation by case by case basis under the "rule of reason".

I myself have been subject to a "you can't sell below the advertised retail price" agreement. In exchange for that, I received a discount on the product and was listed as an authorized installer.
And it's not that they can't sell below that price, they just can't offer it online for one click purchase. If you call they are free to negotiate.
