Only if they're selling short (which works best for publicly traded companies).
I suppose being a competitor is next best.

I read of someone who was shorting an electronics company. Then he saw an ad for electronic components, called it, was answered by same company. They were selling materials to raise cash and stay afloat. Not building and selling product.
Selling short is scary. Maximum gain is only to zero, where as it can go to infinity in the other direction.

I tried shorting Peloton stock directly a while back. I would have made a killing on it, but the market remained irrational longer than I could remain solvent. I got scared and had to bail on my position when it seemed like the world was taking crazy pills. Eventually the market came around to my way of thinking.. but too late for me. Since then I don't short stock directly, only through options if I'm really feeling it.

I agree. That's why Amazon is flooded with 5 star reviews for cheap Chinese manufactured products. I don't like the practice.
You have to read the reviews on Amazon, quite a few of them, to get anything meaningful from them. The star rating is useless. I used to find reading the Q&A with the seller useful, but for some reason I can't see all the questions and answers anymore.

Why’s it marked “resolved”? OP needs to be given some time to respond. SMS we are still waiting to see if OP did dish with them after order was cancelled. Or did I miss something?

Looks like everyone can retreat to their corners and wait for the next Signature Solar dogpile thread.

You missed Q-Dog post #68. He called it. :ROFLMAO:

See post #62. SS asked for identity verification, got no response, cancelled order. OP was never charged.

Correct per SS side of the series of events.

I really hope we see a follow up from @chadwick20021
Phone logs showing hours would be very helpful and beneficial to share if the claims are in fact true.

I certainly wish I had read reviews before I wasted days placing an order with Signature Solar. My problems with this company mirror everyone else's. The problems everyone is having with this company are very consistent. It all boils down to horrible customer service and customer care. After my $12,000 paid-for-order was cancelled without even a phone call, I spent hours talking to various managers and personnel. NO ONE followed through with what they told me. Upper management would not even take my calls. Now, I can't get anyone to even answer the phone.

I offered to drive there personally, pay in cash and pick up my order. The customer service manager I spoke with Taylor Phillips said he would call me back the next business day. It's been 3 weeks and no call.

My advice is to avoid this company at ALL costs. Spend your money with a company that truly cares about its customers and wants to earn your business. Signature Solar is NOT that company!

It's a tricky one, isn't it...

... totally agree with that. Feedback good or bad is needed for any successful company.

... that was my point in post #9, especially if the 'complainant' is a first time poster here, rather than a regular who happened to have an issue with xyz company.

... but if you look on the forum without logging on you will see SS are an advertiser on here, with banners on the top and bottom of every single thread page. So they are doing us a favour by helping pay for the site.
Odds are good if you are seeing ads your browser is posting them based on your search history...
AFAIK Will has no advertising on his forum

There are banner ads for non members. Super smart idea by some members months back. I don't even charge for them, only use affiliate links. If you log out and look at a thread you'll see them.

Yes I am hoping he posts evidence. When a thread is started without evidence and asserting claims of wrong doing, I don't take it seriously. Not the way to do it.

Congratulations on running a top notch forum, Will. I've only recently discovered it, and have learned a ton already. The high standards and collegial atmosphere make it easy to hang around here.

Regardless of what exactly happened with the order that's the subject of this thread, the discussion is useful. SSJames makes some very interesting points about what they do, the expectations of some customers, and so on. I've worked in small businesses all my life, done the retail thing, and have good friends who own stores. People can be relied upon to be weird, surprisingly often. Vendors can be as troublesome, in their own ways. It's a crazy world out there.

We approved the order and shipped it. A week later, there's the chargeback. Package was delivered to the scammer and the money was taken from our bank account. Ouch.

Are you saying that when a vendor ships after credit card approval, and later card is found to have been stolen, the credit card company sticks it to the vendor?

Is there some process you're supposed to do that protects you? Make those CC (the other ones) companies earn their 2% ~ 3%

As a business owner of over 30 years, Yes. The CC companies don't care about the businesses and they will screw the business. The contracts the business has to sign are 50 pages or so, of tiny print. There is always a way for the CC company to avoid getting stuck.

1 Purchase. Flawlessly executed. Great price. My only experience with SS and their CS gave good updates as to delivery.

Love this thread. Human nature; Far rarer do people post their good experiences than the relatively few that go side ways, and then some people just make stuff up, leave out details or context.

The season of LOVE continues in NY tonight.
Same here, first time buyer with SS my order toke over a month due to power pro backorder, @SignatureSolarJess constantly update me about my order. I receive 4 pallets well package without any damage that my eyes could see. My only hope is that my story will be the norm in the near future..

I ordered 12 Solar Panels with the 5% off $150 black friday shipping from SS. The only negative that I can come up with is that there was no tracking number sent. Finally called them on the phone. The call went through fine and got the tracking number and the panels were delivered the next day.

They were well packaged and arrived in flawless condition. Since this was my first order then I would have to say that it was a positive experience except for not knowing if the panels were even shipped until they almost arrived. I get a better response from Amazon or Ebay. I get notified immediately when my item is shipped and get a tracking number so I can make sure all is well.

I feel sad too but I am also concerned there may be a 'slippery slope' developing here... I am not based in the USA and so unlikely to ever use SS, CC or any of the other major US-based solar suppliers. My comments are just from an outsider's viewpoint reading these posts which, as @shopman said, seem to be occurring too frequently.

IMHO, it appears there has been an issue with SS in getting things delivered on time and not responding to customer through the usual channels. But, thanks to @SignatureSolarJess's responses, those who post their problems on here get their issues raised and seemingly dealt with very quickly; often sorted out with the delayed item(s) getting shipped out the same day.

But unless that is happening to everyone's order then it wouldn't surprise me if word gets around to say "if you have an problem with SS then just post something on the DIYSolarForum and you'll be sorted out the same day".

Whilst I have no reason to believe @chadwick20021's post is not genuine, it was his first post here. Clearly he is not a regular DIYer on here who just happened to have an issue with an order, but someone who has posted just to complain about SS. Being a first post makes the cynic in me wonder whether the aim of the post was to 'get something to happen', rather than just a general warning to others.

Either way, I feel there is a danger of the DIYSolarForum being abused as being a customer support channel for SS. Just my 2p. I'm sure everyone's mileage may vary.
As it is my first post, how would I know that posting something may get a response from them?

I'm a 58 year old man who has been in sales and customer relations for more than 40 years. I don't believe companies should be rewarded and stay in business when they treat customers as if they don't matter. That is how SS treats far too many customers. No one is perfect. There will always be an unhappy customer here and there. But, SS has far too many unhappy customers. They need to be put out of business if they refuse to put customers first.

WHY did they cancel your order? and do they still have your money?
How do you make money cancelling an order.? ….unless you charge a 15% restocking fee or something like that .
In defense of SS , they do bring suspence , excitement and drama to the forum…Sorta like watching episodes of Dallas each week…Pretty soon yer hooked…

( ask a boomer if ya don’t know what that means.)

The real question is, "How do they stay in business treating customers like they do?"

This has NEVER been resolved. SS's employee was on the phone with me and my bank for an hour while the bank raised the limit on my debit card to complete the transaction.

SS never told me to be looking for an email to re-verify my identity. Why would they need to... They were on the phone with me while my bank did all of that.

The head of customer service told me that it was their mistake and a glitch in their system and that I was right. If you will read my post, you will see that my primary complaint is not that the order got canceled but how the company and it's very as employees and managers responded and refused to respond in the wake of the order cancellation.

Why did you mark this issue resolved? Nothing has been resolved. Read my last post.

Yes...The only way to win a chargeback is if you can prove that the purchase was not fraudulent.
