Anyone using Porsche Taycan modules?

I am thinking of buying some, but because of the bms they need to be cut with a grinder to access the individual cell voltages.
A small window may be a better alternative to cutting the complete side of the module.
What is your experience with these modules?

That’s an interesting module. Been doing a little research on the Taycan battery pack. It looks like a distributed BMS architecture they have. Could you possibly get a closer picture of the TQFP IC; really curious the part number to understand functionality.
 
i don't have them yet but people on other forums already decrypted the messages to read temps and voltages.
 
Yes, we are a 2nd life ess builder and are using solution to connect with internal BMS without cutting anything open. few google searches will help you to get to the solution.
 
This is just horrible to open, i understand why people just cut the complete side panel...

How safe it is to use it without BMS, just use low/high voltage rates set on inverter/charger? I mainly need them as UPS solution for my apartment, due to constant electricity outages.

Or is there any over/under(25.2v/19.2v) charge protection that could be connected to battery module terminals?
 
What BMS options do I have without need to disassemble module? Anything like to put in between battery and inverter that would protect it?

The module is 6s2p, so it has 25.2 high and something like 19.2 low

unfortunately the taycan modules are unfamiliar to me. have seen a bit about tesla models. wish i could provide more productive direction info.

either way, the important features to ensure are primarily the safety disconnect function.

specifically:
Any Cell too Low Voltage disconnect
Any Cell too High Voltage disconnect
Temperature too High disconnect
Temperature too Low disconnect

for tesla modules, some people seem to use a third party board/device to interface with the onboard stuff, but that is something beyond my experience.

if any cell group's voltage goes too high (or low), for safety purposes, it is quite useful for an automatic disconnect to occur. both to ensure damage to cells is minimized, and to prevent mainly overvoltage unscheduled rapid disassembly.

toy example: four cells could add up to 4 volts. ideally this means all cells are 1.0 volt.

however, it could be 0V, 2V, 1V, 1V. very bad, but the total is still 4V.

That makes sense. From what I know tacan modules have built in cell balancing(but not over/under charge cutoffs). Will see how it goes
 
That site has 2 BMS option, one seem to be more vehicle oriented, while other ESS. SO what is ESS and which would be better to get for home power wall?

Energy Storage System.
You need the protective BMS functionalities.
Contactor control, charge control, etc.
The first option is strictly monitoring.
 
If using these modules for a home 'powerwall', DO NOT store inside your house. Build an outbuilding for them. These are cobalt chemistry and thus are susceptible to thermal runaway.

I was planning to use them in my condo. I'm from Ukraine and we're getting our energy system shelled on weekly basis, so I was looking for temporary solution such as hybrid inverter + few battery modules like above. I actually already got myself EASUN 3KWT inverter with 2 taycan modules(got real bargain, $150 per each(2)) and now I plan to use it to power my computer and few more appliances at condo when main grid is off. While inverter has low DC cut off, it does not seem to have high DC cut off and that's what can make a real fire. SO I'm looking for cheapest and simplest solution to cover that need
