Best crimper for 2/0 and 4/0 ?

I have a Greenlee 1981 manual crimper, its very simple, but its the indent style. It also requires fine tuning as the adjuster turns.

What is everyone else using? If i want to upgrade it looks very expensive. Is there a decent alternative for crimping large cables?

I use a 12 ton hydraulic crimper and have no problems making 4/0, 3/0, 2/0 and all the way down with the die set included. amazon and Ebay have these and the prices should be around $40 and up. I have had mine for 7 years, no problems.

I have a TEMco hydraulic but only goes 2/0. Excellent crimps. Glad to be rid of the HF crimper.

Consider ordering 4/0 custom crimped if needed.

Agreed. I bought a yellow one similar. Failed the first attempt. Dont remember what happened but, it went back.

Ended up with big blue Temco. A bit awkward if retrofitting in small places but Ive been able to perform every crimp in any case.

Just verify you are getting AWG crimping dies or you are getting AWG and MCM dies. Although MCM dies will crimp AWG lugs you might end up with sharp ridges in the crimp.

The picture on the middle looks borderline undercrimped. I’d give it less than 50% change to survive UL486 tensile strengt test and 0% change to pass MIL tensile test.

Doesn’t look like that as the hex corners are not clearly formed againts the die.
MIL-T-7928 tensile strenght test for 2/0 cable crimp is 750lbs, how did you tested the crimp?

I got tired of the "wings" on my crimped lugs so I bought this Temco 32 set kit. It goes from 10 ga. to 600 MCM and has + sizes on some sets. I also like the way the dies are embossed. giving a raised lug size set in each crimped lug
