Problem with Solarcabin Channel - AIBU?

I do agree with SeaGal. He is combative on nearly every post especially if you have posted corrections to his comments. This is where IMHO he becomes more of a danger to inexperienced people. I might block him but I don't know what all I miss if I do. Although it's quite comical to read his apparent lack of knowledge pushing some ideas as facts when they are clearly just his own opinion.

I can be an arrogant ass, and I tend to be very blunt, but I generally recognize when I'm wrong, or when someone else has better information. I can also admit when I'm wrong when given objective data or new experience.

He seems incapable of thinking he could possibly be wrong. He seems to feel like he's done it all, and he has nothing left to learn.

Working in engineering for the last 30 years, I learned in year one, that there are a lot of really smart people out there that know a lot more about a lot of things that I don't. I decided pretty much everybody has something to teach me. I pretty much learn something new here almost every day (or at least reminded of something I have forgotten); otherwise, more than one person would refer to me as "sunshine_ego"... :)

I hesitate to ignore him because I feel obligated to mitigate any misinformation he may put out there.

IMHO... that's a perfect succinct summary - thanks (y)

So does this mean you are considering MPP equipment ? and ditch that euro trash?

I actually agree with that. He has made some remarks which I see as sexists / objectifying, that other's probably won't. That happens - I can live with that - I have been doing that 30+ years working a largely male-dominated industry - I wouldn't expect anyone to be banned for that - he can be ignored.

The issue I raised, was due to the confrontational responses to technical corrections - and a huge volume of them in just one week - not just directed to me, but to others who are way more experienced than I am in solar-related matters.... to the point that threads were becoming overwhelmed.
I am glad that we agree on the freedom of speech thing…it’s a rather important concept over here…ha….I further agree that this forum is Wills personal property and if he doesn’t like the hat someone wears he has the right to bounce them…?….
Hey it’s America… we have that right here too.

Again the cabin guy is annoying sometimes I agree, we have butted horns a time or two…He’ll, I am annoying somtimes, my wife reminds me often……almost everyone I have seen on this forum can be annoying or run off at the mouth at times…

I have seen in my several years many “facts “ that we’re mis- stated or wrong from many people at some point.. ( usually by accident or a brain lapse I would like to think)…I certainly have said wrong facts, not by design but through ignorance at that point..or bad phrasing or typing…
I bet you have too, If you think about it…

im just not Gona let the stress of micro- examination of every word some one says get under my skin easily ..lifes to short….
it should go without saying that everyone should research and verify everything they read here before put it into service…yess there are a few here I just follow with trust ( yea , their that good) …, but free advice is usually worth about what ya pay for it… the burden is on the recipient to examine info before accepting as fact…

I do have to say this though , this seems abit more personal of a squabble than the facts would dictate appropriate or normal………overwhelming is a very subjective word ..How salty is over salted ?..How short is too short.? What is objectifying ..? When is it to much.. and to who…? Should sauce for the goose also be sauce for the gander..? What if they are both wrong? And who decides.?

I agree with some others that this is not the forum for much of this back and forth..
Different cultures, local communities and religions have different standards for acceptable words and dialog…and actions… expecting everyone to know exactly what is allowed to say by everyone else on a world wide forum is an exercise in folly…I have seen certain words used here in normal discussion I won’t even say in the locker room…ewww…that’s rough…
We all need to grow abit thicker skin and not take everything so seriously…

thanks for the exchange of ideas.

Dont worry ..be happy..
J.

Actually, I totally would for a small scale project, or something I wanted to cheap out on for experimental purposes or just to feed the sickness with some new solar gadgetry!

They will pry my blue hardware from my cold, dead... blue... fingers for my main system. :)

I fancy myself an inventor, but I'm not sure I have ever come up with a new idea. When I'm introduced to a new field and a light bulb goes off in my head, I do a quick search and find it has already been patented.

For instance, having learned about quadrature amplitude modulation (amplitude and phase, like QAM-16 with a 4x4 matrix, 16 values representing 4 bits in a single symbol), I observed the square holes were filled with round pegs of data and distributed error. Corners of the squares were wasted bandwidth. So I invented hexagonal modulation (remembering playing with Canadian nickels as a child.) But it had already been patented, despite being patently obvious to me.

Learned from a colleague those corners aren't always wasted. When Soviet Union wanted to transmit secret data by radio, they had someone send a banal message by quadrature modulation, while the secret message was tucked into the corners of the modulation constellation.

About all I do is learn and practice what the giants who came before me figured out and developed. Whether it is BH curves or noise immunity of aerospace control systems. When I correct a team of experts, I'm just telling them what the generation before them had done. Most recently, I postulated an interference issue was EO (electron optics) "chromatic aberration". I just didn't know that was the word for it. It was something system designers had addressed; I simply brought it to the attention of others on the project.

I wish I could actually contribute something new. I just bring an understanding of a couple disciplines that interact.

For some reason when I posted that I pictured the commercial where the eggo shoots out of the popup toaster and flys off the screen :)

You guys are lucky in one respect...

You have an ignore button... mods don't get one.

But yeah, the base rule here is do not respond to something you feel strongly about... report it.

If a member posts that it is fine to run 1000A on a #10copper conductor... respond to that part...

Don't respond if someone says xxx is a fool and stupid to boot because they are a girl and don't know what they are talking about... just report it.

If someone calls me a fool, and I don't know a wire from a hole in the ground, that's on them...

I think my posts stand for themselves. And I ABSOLUTELY love it when someone points out something I am wrong about. I'm here to learn AND teach...

I have trouble accepting holes, too. To me it just means musical chairs.
But that apparently doesn't hold up with Hall effect.

[Edit:

That research Gate link may have referred to a perforated (semi-) conductor.

This one here is about Hall effect with positive (hole) charge carriers. Which apparently demonstrates they actually exist.
