Luyuan battery case

How bad? I had 2 280ks that were slightly bent as well. I figured the flexible bus bar was making it a non issue.
Any pictures?
Yep. Two of them are bent all the way, one about halfway, and one is barely bent. I almost feel like the one that’s barely bent is useable but I worry about the integrity of the cell. I have a family so I’m trying to be pretty cautious about this build. I do have class T fuses at least.

Yeah this is worse than mine. I probably would still use them but that is just me. What is 18650 doing about it? It would be interesting if you updated here.

Not a lot of crush room in that packaging, any serious impact on top could cause that?

That's why I like the rept 280, no risk of that happening

Edit, also only two cells per box instead of four. Unless they were damaged in the crates and then broken down into four packs for onward shipping?

That's an 18650 Company problem and they should exchange those. They cannot be trusted. The pads those are attached to are attached internally obviously and that connection point can't be stressed or damaged. They "might" be ok but not likely and less likely over time.

BTW: THIS IS A LUYUAN CASE THREAD ! Let's keep to relevant topics

Luyuan shipped 2 280k per box, nice and flat.

If I had to nit pick, their sticker placement on top of the cells could use a little improvement. They are all catywompuss.

Also I was surprised there wasn’t any branding on sticker that said Luyuan.

Another thing I could nitpick on is the 4awg silicone leads and lugs for BMS and breaker. Another few inches would have been best on some and too long on others. Also 3 or 4 were 5/16 lugs and 1/4” are needed.

Ideally seeing the BMS mounting is up to the end user, IMO it’d be better off with bare cables and crimps in a bag. That way you can custom cut the length. Sure it’s bendy but if it’s still 2-3” too long you can’t make it work without some force on the terminals.

Luckily I had 4awg 1/4 lugs left over from my other 24v build that I was able to make do.

The ferrules provided for the circuit breaker were flared tinned so it was easy to reslide when they fell off when I was reviewing parts.

Must have changed the ferrules after I received mine. That would be an improvement.

The busbar between each side should have been tinned, was yours?

Steve or others who may know. I have 8 280's from Amy that I run in a 24 V configuration for one RV and a 12 Volt for the other. I have a plywood case and then just reconfigure them. Could I do that with one of these 24V cases and just change the cells connections and BMS or is there a physical barrier to such a configuration with these cases?

The bus bar between cell 4 and 5 is tinned, no heat shrink though.

I did clean up the flexible bus bar insulation with a utility knife.

You could easily do a 2p4s with the case and provided hardware.

Still waiting for my order to hit the west coast. Not a big deal as I haven't ordered anything else except the RV trailer and it isn't supposed to hit the lot until later August.

Rather than buy a Class T fuse holder, do you think it would be possible to attach the Class T fuse directly to the cell terminal? I can always put in the Class T fuse holder and connect it to the terminal with a copper bus bar, but the height of the fuse holder and the cell terminal aren't likely to be close. I really want that Class T fuse as close to the battery as possible. But maybe that's too close?

1) You can transfer your cells over without issues.
2) She provides busbars & wires etc with the Case Kits.
* You do have to tell her WHAT CELLS your using because of busbar spacing. In particular the X-BAR that bridges the two sides at the back. Depending on Cell Brand & MODEL the terminals may be in different locations. As seen with EVE N & K series cells, for example.
3) There is a choice of busbars as well. For single Terminal/Post you can get Pure Copper Mesh flexible. Solid Tinned copper etc.
There is also Dual Hole Flexible laminated bars for those cell terminals as well. The X-BARS can be either depending on cell type & spacing.

Each kit has FR4 sheet, Foam pads, wires, breaker etc. You just have to select the BMS you'll be using even if not buying a BMS so that the correct case Faceplate is provided and the correct pressure/BMS mount plate.

CHAT/Messenger with Amy.
Tell her the Brand & Model of te existing cells you want to use, so she can provide the correct busbars.
Choose if you want Single or Double terminals on the case.

Do TELL HER you are coming from DIYSolarForum.

Which makes me wonder why my boxes had the non tinned ferrules and the non tinned crossover bus bar. Then add in the wrong size hole for the breaker.
Seems like asking for the "Steve model" doesn't necessarily mean you'll get his specific config?

Granted I didn’t see if there was actually any issue with my bars sitting flat on both terminals. It was only an 1/8” or so, not terrible.

I trimmed them flush before trying. There is a little play in the wholes so it may have worked

I’d say I got what I expected (minus the lack of my knowledge of a BMS bus plate)

8s case
single terminals
JK screen cutout
Dual hole bus bars for 280k

I didn't ask for the Steve model as it did not exist at the time. I actually ordered around end of February and had to wait for the Chinese holiday to end before the boxes were built.

I can say the product is not consistent. For example, I setup the balance leads using the same bottom case and found the bars that hold the balance leads are not the same length from box to box. I haven't assembled that box yet but I'll probably have to add another sheet or two of poron to take up the extra length.

It is an OK product if you can tinker. If you are not handy, might be better off not buying these until the kinks are worked out.

I need another box for my golf cart, not sure if I really want to go with Luyuan until the kinks are worked out. If you watched the video, you should notice I did not review the product- no pros or cons. Hopefully these improve. I have enough things to build, I'm really not in the mood to modify another box.

I agree. I bought an EEL 48v 280k box at the same time as the luyuan. The EEL arrived first. I put it together first. It was nice.
Then I put together the Luyuan. Its similar, but the details are different. Im a tinkerer, It was 40% more expensive. I dont know what one I will buy next.

which one was / is cheaper ?

Why people are ordering "the steve model" ?
The ONLY differences I needed was Single Batt Terminals. It was also the 1st set to have the new standoff's on the BMS plate.
I got a mixed set as well... 2 cases with Flexible Laminated bars for the dual hole EVE cells. The rest all have Copper Mesh busbars because they are actually better & easier to install. Also they have "tight" screw holes & not slots which I am not particularly fond of. Because I have standard LF280's & tee LF280-N & LF-280-K, the Mesh Copper is the best overall "consistent" solution.
