This week the House voted to tax foreign solar panels. I voted NOT to tax them because this tax is just a tax on US citizens who want to use solar

Tom Massie is an interesting person. He is correct, a tax on solar panels is just a tax on US citizens who want to use solar.

Have you seen this video?

I hope they keep their noses out of the solar stuff.

Right now the innovation thats flowing from china and such is something the usa customers are benefiting from. Find some other area to tariff and tax and leave the solar market alone.

Find another lightbulb type to force us to switch to thats not made in the usa like they seem to be hell bent on.

I'm all for protecting american jobs and such but is there even an american solar industry to protect? Really?

Yes, Hanwha Q CELLS (a Korean not Chinese company) is actively working towards having nearly 100% made in USA panels (glass may come from Canada). They have manufacturing facilities in Georgia and are currently building facility that creates the backing material used on non-bifacial panels. It would be the only manufacturer in North America producing that backing soon. They are also working to create a silicon wafer plant which would also be the only one in North America for solar.

Lots of PV plants popped up in 2008-2010sh then the rebates/incentives demanding US made goods disappeared, so did the facilities. Easy come easy go.

Heck Tesla got huge bank for opening up in buffalo for manufacturing PV panels, dont think they made too many and have always been on the hook for the # of jobs they haven’t delivered.

I still have quite a few years worth of incandescent bulbs left in my stock pile.....screw the gubbermint.

used to think so ...
look at his voting behavior over the last few years and you might think different

One can decide for themselves.

He is my Congressman, glad to have him. He lives in the same county we do, he graduated from the county school, went to MIT, later developed some VR tech stuff, sold the company and moved back home. He built his home using local materials, i.e. rock and timber. He claims his house's wood framework is held together without any metal fasteners. Before he became a congressman, he was the county judge executive which is kinda like the county's "mayor".

He uses a gravity fed water system from a pond above his home, and built a wood boiler in the basement for heat. He had used LA batteries for years, but ended up taking a Tesla battery from a wrecked car and converting it for his home use. Of course he has solar panels on his roof. His property has several fruit trees, and they have several types of livestock. Very clever smart fellow. Don't know of any other Congress critter that lives off grid like he does.

I keep wanting to go visit his place and pick his brain, but he's also a big 2nd amendment advocate, so it'd probably be better to call first..
