Install and Operation of the SUNGOLD 10KW 48V SPLIT PHASE SOLAR INVERTER

You'd think, but my communication with them has been problematic....seemingly mostly due to language barrier... :(

I did go to the inverter and try changing the protocol from Pylontech to Pace and just got an error condition.
Did you get the battery SOK program to work? It worked instantly for me with the sungold rs232 cable. I really wish it would work with the multisibcontrol program as I would have everything on one screen and one program. The inverter side of the program works great.

Yes, same BMS - Pace and the PBMSTools application works fine once I got the proper cable connected. And it's working fine/properly with Solar Assistant as well.
and yes the Sungold RS232 cable works great. As does the SOK two-piece cable. :)

Are you referring to the communication software that was linked?
Is there anything special about it like settings you can't access with the display screen?

I did buy a couple of cables via Amazon that did not work though!

Some info above about wiring if anyone should want/need to build one themselves - https://diysolarforum.com/threads/i...-split-phase-solar-inverter.71345/post-924209
Me too. ? Then I got the the SG RS232 cable. I am using the SOK version of the PBMS as it's a newer version just with SOK branding.
This is my setup in the trailer as it is right now. Waiting on help to move the batteries into the home built rack. I am full time in the camper. And sitting in a friend's driveway right now lol. Need a better location as there are too many trees here.

Wonderful!

Yes, I'm using the 2023 SOK version for the batteries. It's same program but with a couple added items on the System Config page. Even has same password lol.

That's a nice DIY rack! Did you bend the sheet metal in a brake?
Gives me some ideas for my next one.
Nicely done!

Nope, you weren't supposed to notice that ? It's getting fixed tomorrow night when the crimper arrive ??
As for the rack. The bracing is old store shelving cut to fit. And the rack mount shelves I found cleaning out a garage ? so it was all free and that's the best price!

? I have an eagle eye.
Absolutely the best price, nice score.

Wish I could get numbers like that. Although I did make 113kwh I used more than I made and had to use 60k of grid too

How much PV power?
Below is the chart for my entire house.
That huge chunk of grid usage was painful last night but I wanted a full charge on the batteries.

What? I'm not following...

that's battery address #1 nearest the inverter bat #2 at bottom of pic.
the RJ485 cable goes from the inverter to battery #1 RS485A port and Bat #1 RS485B port connects to Bat #2 rs485C port
as per image supplied from Sungold (unless their Bat #1 is on bottom):
i just connected by cables as per the picture and now I’m getting full charge and correct SOC for Al my batteries! Connected inverter 1 to battery one with supplied cables and then the rest of stack just started charging and no error codes !!

Umm those wire crimps don't look like they were done with a hydraulic crimper from the pics.

I don't know if I would trust those for the battery cables if it was me.

I know people use the hammer crimpers but I prefer the hydraulic method personally.
Will Prowse actually Seems to Promote the Hammer Crimped models in one of his videos I Have had really good success with those as well!

This is how it is supposed to work, but it does require the battery manufacturer to put decent values into the BMS to give to the inverter.
I am disappointed but not surprised that they don't include the proper cable and have no idea how to actually set up communications.
My SP6548 Included the cable with the labels on it. I assumed all of them did??

Well Damn! Got a battery under voltage alarm (@Lighthouse Beacon eek!) and an Alarm on battery #2 ... the inverter switched to bypass...
I checked voltage on battery 2 screen 48.4 and param #14 was set to 49.6 so it should have been alarming ages ago... wtf....

Default in the manual for Param 14 is 44 but for some reason mine was set to 49.6...

This is why I asked Sungold for defaults etc but they only gave me the secret 'reset to factory' key. :( :(

I reset battery and it cleared on the Battery but not on the inverter.... I then unplugged the BMS Comm Cable....and error cleared, plugged back in and error still clear... but still in Bypass mode...
Turned AC input off and it went back to battery

I then changed param 14 to 44 ... but WTF...I don't know what I'm going with all these charging/under/over/etc params...

(oh also overcast/snowy/batteries SOC dropping - currently at 36% average/aggregate)

I'm tempted to just 'Reset to Factory' and then adjust the battery params as instructed by Sungold for their batteries......but I wanted to get through the month and see the result on my Xcel Electric bill first. :( :(

I tried resetting etc. For now I have the battery turned off and disabled.

On the battery display one of the 16 cells is reading 2717 mv all others in the 30XX range.... also the battery display shows a UV error which is what the inverter is complaining about.

Does this battery just need charging/cycling or is it potentially broken?

Message sent to Sungold Support saying the above..

...and since I do not have a stand-along charger for these 48/51v rack-mount batteries what is the best/most economical? I really didn't expect to need such a thing. Arrrgh!

Or should I just go to grid power and somehow? force charge all batteries to capacity?

Emerson R48-3000e3

That's the most economical.
Chargeverter is the easiest

Very similar to what I saw for several days prior to power board failure on my inverter. I let the alarm go, disabled my power coming in from breaker and ran house on batts all the way down to bottom of SOC range maybe 30%, then I turned on utilities and flip sub panel loads off and completely charged the batts of utilities. When I hit 97% the alarms went away. I let the machine run on batts all night and in the morning ran batts back down to 30% and charged again to 100% SOC. I didn’t have any problems again for 2 weeks and I actually replied to Sungold I think im
Good, cycling fixed it… 3 days later my inverter was dead. With that SG called “power board failure”. SG still have my invert and warehouse has not “processed” the returned device.

I don’t believe cycling fixed the issue, I believe it bought me time. I was running great with BMS connectivity prior to losing it completely, which made me sad because I’d had a great week of performance when it died.

I was babying machine only running 1 12k btu mini split and 4 ceiling fans on low setting, my amp draws on peaks were like 9amps. I’d been babying it big time. Still lost it
