Half price electric cars

Today, many people can't afford new vehicles. The options for used vehicles is a wide range, at least in ICE. When you buy a used ICE, you know the probable future expenses based on what you are paying up front. Even older cars, you can keep it going for a couple grand here and there.

What happens when electric vehicles replace ICE? The selection of used ICE is reduced, driving prices up. Next option is to buy a used EV. It's going to be old technology. Anything affordable is probably at the end of it's battery life. That means a huge second investment in the near future.

So what happens? Either even more government handouts, or more people struggling.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. EVs will be the norm if and when society wants it to be, not when a govt mandates it. I like the idea of EVs and hopefully one day will own one. I read up on them all the time, but each time I see the news telling me the govt is mandating I do something it just turns me off and disinterests me.
The ONLY thing I like about government mandating, or setting a deadline for a mandate (that can easily change) is it helps nudge companies into developing tech, and working out kinks in existing tech prior to the deadline…

They'll do it as a per mile charge, prob OBD2 reader or just direct to .gov mothership, I think some states may already be doing this or at least proposed it.

Install larger diameter tires. And cover GPS antenna.

Yeah CA is already working on a fix since EV’s are projected to create a 6 billon dollar hole in the states road tax fund.

On a different note The CPUC In California is pushing for a monthly flat fees on all grid connections so those folks with solar pay their fair share to maintain our grid. I’m actually surprised this didn’t occur sooner.

An income tax, actually. People with higher income to pay a higher flat monthly fee for infrastructure.
It was initially described as a way to reduce the cost of switching to electric appliances and EVs.

I saw an article explaining how the infrastructure fee will help reduce summer air conditioning costs. Presently, infrastructure cost is baked into per kWh charge, so in the summer when more power is consumed, the bills total more than such costs.

Of course, charging flat per month fee means those who use half as much power every month still pay same portion of infrastructure.
But I guess the bill has to be spun as having something for everyone so more people support it.

“To be clear, CPSC isn’t coming for anyone’s gas stoves,” he wrote. “Regulations apply to new products.”

They may not knock down your door to seize your gas appliances, but they would arrest anyone selling them, so you won't be able to replace.

Probably implement a registration requirement and annual tax. California has that under consideration for a different type of product (and one that is a constitutional right, at that.)

Yep. I look at the growth of heat pump appliances and people mention the common place of more efficient products in other countries that seem to take longer to catch on here.
Wish there was a better balance of progress without govt intervention.
Phone chargers and car chargers I feel similarly could be in that realm. I get it, free market competition, but it’s a pain sometimes too hah

I’m gonna build an A frame tent out of solar panels with wheels and an electric motor.
Yall can keep bickering while I enjoy my electric rv tent camper truck house array 😤
Like I said I just want a cardboard box with wheels and a $1000 motor, it'll work great
no passengers allowed
adding a tent on it is a good idea, could be weather proof

Need to compare to energy costs in those other countries. Our energy taxes are often lower in comparison so less reason to conserve.
Goes back to my statement of more Grinch, less Santa.

What is with this bizarre idea that we need to make this cost more? Like, why do you think we should have higher taxes so people feel more forced to do what you want? Why do you want to control people so bad?

Want an EV? Fine, ger one. But don't try to force your neighbors and total strangers into nuying one!

Dang it man I'll never understand why some people want to control other people's lives so much! 😡

He just stated a fact about how it is in USA and how many other countries are..

You do not understand it because you are not mentally ill. Good people do not seek control of others lives.

The apathy of the controlled population allows for all sorts of oppression and deception. People who seek to live and let live are affected by the tyranny of the majority, and so in this way we are all subject to problems that the easily controlled among society create or allow.

There's a reason they're called RV parks/lots and not campgrounds, princess

anyway your entire complaint is about batteries, yea, nobody here thinks current battery tech is perfect, in fact there are like 200 labs around the world working on several different technologies all better than current

oh no your conversation went from -∞ to -∞ what will we do

all of those will still be available.
KOA = Kampgrounds of America, largest privately owned campground chain
Good Sam - "Considered the “nation’s largest RV club,” Good Sam is quite different from the franchises and chains mentioned above. Good Sam doesn’t own or operate the 2,100 Good Sam parks, instead the campgrounds are affiliates."

Seriously, don't see much of it on here, but you are just one of those people who loves to argue on the internet. The insults come out, name calling, never staying on topic.

They call them "RV Sites", princess
No kidding.

You said "There's a reason they're called RV parks/lots and not campgrounds"
I point out how wrong you are with the larges private campground chain and largest RV club, and that's what you come back with.
Seriously, pretty much anyone who has been to a campground knows they have tent sites and rv sites. In the campground.

Ignore list to the rescue...

Again, that will never, ever happen. Just like the ZEV mandate.

It's like worrying that they will ban bacon because some politician said they wanted to do that in 20 years. Not going to happen.
California has already:
1. Prohibited the sale of gas powered lawn mowers and outdoor equipment.
2. Created zero emission zones.
3. My legally registered diesel truck (in another state) is banned from entering California.

I did not think any of those things would ever happen a few years ago.

Ignore list to the rescue...
I've never even thought of doing that before on here, never been an issue.
I've seen, and even been part of discussions with very different points of view on here, but usually it's just opinion clash.

sorry princess, complaining isn't gonna fix your problems
You mean: I (as in me) pointed out that you were wrong on your biggest RV club*
Good try though

The repetitive name calling is not helping with credibility.

Was so hoping got beans would continue with useful information.
We're supposed to be building street cred here?
tulex has pages and pages of random unrelated complaints to strike drama, I was assisting him.

I have multiple big rigs that the state considers illegal, they allow us to keep and use them they just limit the miles. This is the same rules for our heavy equipment fleet. Although the majority of our equipment is Teir 4 , some of it is old and non compliant but it’s on the low use list and can be used legally indefinitely in the state.

I just purchased half a dozen gas powered chain saws last week, also a new riding lawnmower. Not sure about this gas powered ban you’re talking about. The majority of the bans they talk about on the news aren’t truly a ban and there are so many loopholes they never really matter.

I live in CA and I’ve never seen a zero emissions zone.
