Unanswered threads

Answering threads with a non-answer just to get them "answered" is not productive. It is far better to let them cook for a few days to see if they get a legitimate answer. If not, then bump them with a non-answer.
some of the ones answered were like 2 months old

Yes, and that is great. Definitely bump those to see if they get an answer. Even better, attempt to find a partial answer and start with that.

But I think you missed my point. Providing a non-answer to a recently asked question simply removes it from the unanswered list, which is not the truly desired outcome. Removing it from the list just to "tidy up" makes it even harder to find posts with no answer.

A lot of the unanswered threads were stuff for sale... so nobody was really interested.. and if they were then a quick search of the forum and they would come up... some threads don’t get answered because they are impossibly technical..I get what you’re saying though... I’m guilty of a few... but soon enough somebody would turn up and help out... my motivation was good from the outset... some unanswered posters want a solution that is not possible or doesn’t exist.. some want a 100% solution... when only 80 of 90% is practical... and some can’t be arsed to even search the forum... anyhow the thread is more maneagable now.. and I think members are now more tuned into helping the unanswered threads... which is a win overall... I must admit... I was cheeky with a few answers.. so I’m on best behavior... for today at least..

Well we have one unanswered after I did my run and hopefully someone can help him figure out what values he needs to try and do his repair. I don't have a schematic for that inverter so can't help.

I try to watch for unanswered threads, do my bit as a good DIY Solar Forum Member.
Often we see in unanswered threads: - poorly described questions, lack of technical detail, new members, questions easily answered from a search instead of posting a new thread, questions that belie the posters' lack of basic understanding.
On any given day, the number of members signed in is 15-20% of the guests, polite replies to new members should encourage more participation, and guests to join as members.

I think this is a really good aspiration for the forum members...?

Thanks to everyone that helped out.. I didn’t think it would be such a good outcome.. my first thread only got a great response because of you guys and gals.. many thanks

So I’m always looking at the unanswered threads... seeing if there are any that with my limited knowledge I might be able to help.
There are 6 pages of them... is it possible that between us we could try and answer all of them... it must be disheartening to get zero replies...
I used to click on threads with no replies. I ended up spending most of my time repeating responses I put out in other threads.

There is a Search function in the right hand upper corner. I used it often when I lurked around here back in the day. Some should use the Search function before posting up a new thread.

I'm not against helping someone, I'd prefer they look for answers in the archives here first.

Definitely agree that a fair few either aren’t aware of the search function... or can’t be bothered ..
