Happy Breffast!
I have that Predator. No complaints, but I'd prefer the Champion for the Propane option. I got the predator because it was available the moment I needed it. ![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
Those are rare birds indeed. So you like the FC-150 and FC-170's
The first FC-150's were built on a CJ-5 platform. Must've been a rough ride sitting over the front axle with the engine between driver and passenger. Those are rare birds indeed.
Yes. Wider frame, everything the CJ had but better springs and later, OBD1.A YJ? really?
Ok. Subjective, purpose dependentfar superior to any of the Jeeps
I know!are a special case
1: no. Who in their right mind would do that?Do you buy the cheapest quality parts for your Jurassic Park Jeep? JC whitney?
I haven’t ?have been stuck in the boonies with a busted vehicle too many times
Yes it is- half the lifespan or triple the price. It's really simple.
okThe lead-acid / LifePo4 comparison is not even close to a simile. It's an analogy illustrating my point
My trailer is my basecamp
Okown a 2016 Jeep rubicon hard rock, a 19 foot off-road capable trailer
I don’t generally have interruptions from breakdowns. It's about wringing the most fun out of a trip, without interruptions caused by breakdowns.
If someone steals my generator and it breaks down in the middle of nowhere I’m not going to fix I’m just calling the copsBut, if you are as much of a DIY wizard as you say, you will have no issues whatsoever fixing your cheap generator when it breaks down in the middle of nowhere.
Incongruous.I choose to not need to worry about it. That's the real value of a Honda
That was already clearLove those old Jeeps! (except the YJ, and the 70's commando or jeepster)
changing oil is important. filters are too?My 1960's Honda motorcycles don't have a filter (one has a centrifugal filter, no paper.)
I think the recommended oil change interval is 350 or 500 miles. vs. several thousand for the car, which has spin-on filter.
I had ?260k on my 2.5 when I pulled it - still running decent- and put in a 4.0 so I’m probably around 340,000 miles now.My 1990 YJ 4 cylinder gets me around at my off grid cabin. 288,000 plus miles since 2017.
I really liked the dash layout of the YJ. Not everybody did, same with the rectangular headlights. One very bad thing with the original YJ's was the French Peugeot transmission. I believe they dumped them pretty early in production. The 4.0 I-6 was a great motor and are still a desirable motor when, used jeep shopping.Yes. Wider frame, everything the CJ had but better springs and later, OBD1.
Ok. Subjective, purpose dependent
That's funny. More proof that the rectangular headlights weren't popular.I don’t mind the square headlights but this is my many-mods 89 YJ after the 4.0 injection and before I got tires that worked. Grill is ‘67-ish, hood in there too, ‘86 fenders. View attachment 153163
I had one of those once… I like that little 7amp critter… it looked like a big bug sorta…That's why I love my $150 1000w two stroke generator. No oil to change and nothing to lose. It even runs fine out in the open in pouring rain.
Same here… same gen set most likely…I do the same thing…other than what they may have tested at the factory… no gas in it since I got it…I have a 9000 watt (ish) champion dual fuel.
I taped the gasoline cap down with red duck tape. Propane only. It will never see gasoline.
It’s great. Starts, runs, doesn’t stink the place up. Oil stays cleaner.
No regerts.
It powered my shop vac the other day, which I used to vacuum the loose dirt out of an augured post hole. I felt like a genius.I had one of those once… I like that little 7amp critter… it looked like a big bug sorta…
My ‘87 is still rectangular ?That's funny. More proof that the rectangular headlights weren't popular.
Hmm. I just went by what the seller told me.The hood on a 67 would be shorter than a 72' or newer because before 72 they had 4 cylinders' and V-6's thus not needing as much room as an inline 6. In 72 AMC extended the front clip by about 5 inches to accommodate the longer engine block.
those are actually the blinkers, no fogsThe fog lights make the grill look like a newer model as well
Yes, it is.The 4.0 I-6 was a great motor
I have a 1200W pure sine Giandel for that. Just barely but it will also run my cheapo bang-around portable table saw if I don’t bog it. Not the stationary delta though. It powered my shop vac the other day, which I used to vacuum the loose dirt out of an augured post hole. I felt like a genius.
I cannot imagine anyone not liking the champion you’re considering for that price… I cannot speak for all champions but I have seen this one ( 3500 electric start dual) do an excellent job running my whole camper for almost a month with A/C and the other stuff… day and nite .Never had a single issue.I have a 1200W pure sine Giandel for that. Just barely but it will also run my cheapo bang-around portable table saw if I don’t bog it. Not the stationary delta though.
I think the champion will cover my bases.
Didn't say it was Jurassic park painted. The YJ is well known as the "Jurassic park heep".1: no. Who in their right mind would do that?
2: I wouldn’t own a jurrasic-painted heep
3: usedta could buy decent brands from JCWhitney. Too bad they went away.
1/3 the lifespan and double the price. Honda's have a long, and well known history of very long life. What is the documented history of champion generator reliability. How long have they even been in the market?Yes it is- half the lifespan or triple the price.
Some people choose things wisely within their own context. I know what I want.
If you have never broken down, then you can't possibly have much experience. even professional off-roaders have breakdowns. I call 100% bull on this. That's just a silly statement.I don’t generally have interruptions from breakdowns.
I didn't say someone stole your generator? Huh? people don't steal champions anyway. Not worth stealing. And the cops don't usually come to remote, hard to reach areas unless it's something really big. lolIf someone steals my generator and it breaks down in the middle of nowhere I’m not going to fix I’m just calling the cops
My brother and I own a large off grid property and over the years we have had a slew of generators. Many of them suck donkey dong. for example a neighbor could not get his Ryobi 2300W to start so he added it to our collection. In March I cleaned the carb from ethanol poisoning and it ran great. We power the lighting in our 50’x80’ barn with solar and LFP. However if the sun is not shining we fire up a gEmmy when the batts get down to about 10% SoCand use the battery chargers. Last weekend I looked over and the display on the charger was off and the Ryobi was still running, but putting out nothing. I brought it home trouble shoot it only to find out the entire inverter moudule is dead..It has very few hours and is two months out of warranty.. I can buy another cheap 2300W inverter for less Than the failed part.I bought it cuz coupon was expiring- wasn’t done shopping in my head though. It’s returnable if I don’t run it.
What gave me pause was their 2-year protection plan was $299 but they were closing so I figured just buy it and solve it tomorrow. And it’s tomorrow right now
The predator is supposed to be Honda clones. Dunno
I decided what to do - returned the predator bought the champion inverter 6250 or 6500 or whatever it is for ~575 brand new on a ‘special’ or coupon or something from Amazon a month ago. Three year protection plan included. It started second pull. Haven’t tried the TiG on it yet but it doesn’t even notice my ancient makita compound miter saw starting up, and eco mode it starts fine too, as does my compressor.Champion support has been excellent. I don’t think it’s worth the 1K they get for them but for my $150 it is.

Somehow I think it is going to be a great decision to have made in a five-year vision, and that’s half the cost of predatory freight generator with a three year plan so that part was already a good decision.
Thanks for the input
Harbor freight has a short warranty period, but you can buy an extension warranty. The issues are that their warranty is expensive- more expensive than champion- and they don’t have as low of price as champion while predator doesn’t seem to carry forward the precision and good production quality of the Hondas they supposedly clonedjust saw Predator 5000 dual fuel model (see below). Any thoughts on this model?
