So the local inspector hands me the "solar application" and it requires an electrician and a license #.
Need to convince him otherwise without pissing him off.
Any tips?
BTW New Hampshire has a state law exemption to allow homeowners to do their own electrical work.
Nothing in the town by-laws...
Mostly will be used to black start a sunny island sunny boy system from the 120v 16 amp secure power supply on the sunny boy, should I ever find myself in that situation.
Thanks!
Like the title says.
The gutter will be about 12-16" below the inverters. 3 inverters, 2x 3/4" EMT going from each inverter to the gutter.
I'm thinking of leaving the mounts for the gutter a little loose, but not sure how it will go. Inverters are already mounted. I'm using the box adapters with...
Like the title says.
System is 13.4KW AC.
Power company (Eversource) says cut it to 10KW or I have to pay for a transformer upgrade.
Any Idea what that will cost?
They will let me know, but wondering if anyone here has a ballpark # or range.
Thanks
I'd rather stay with the Neey brand, but I can't find one in stock.
MOQ of 5 from the Neey electronics store on alibaba, Ebay hasn't had stock in quite a while, and the Amazon(off brand) has a sketchy app download link.
So are these really available?
16s battery
Thx
My main array feeds an AC coupled/grid tie system with SMA inverters and a 48v battery. It turns out I have 2 extra panels in the array due to cold weather overvoltage limits.
I would like to add a SCC to utilize these 2 panels, and also assist If I get into a black start problem.
2 X 415W...
I am in the process of choosing a vendor for a 3p16s battery made from EVE280 batteries. I have been all over the map from the cheapest us stock $110 each to new cells with data sheets from Amy Wan at $165 delivered from China.
I am currently leaning towards the new cells.
Here is why.
1) I...
Matching mppt current limits, inverter power limits, and array configurations is a bit of a puzzle. Looking for some guidance.
Sunny boy mppt inputs are 10a each and can be ganged 2x for a 20a input.
Canadian solar bifacial 415w can pump 11.1a at STC, and 14.4a with 30% rear face contribution...
Nat gas has roughly doubled in price recently. My current thinking is we will see accelerated payback on our systems, but I don't know.
Do utilities have multi year contracts? Are they slaves to the spot market?
Let me know your thoughts.
Massive spending bill looks to pass, anyone have details on solar incentives?
30% ITC kicks in when?
Might be worth delaying my system commissioning if it's not until next year..
Hi All,
It's been a while, and I've finally hooked up my REC BMS to my split phase Sunny Islands.
The BMS reads the batteries and I can get the data over WIFI from the wifi module.
Can't get the BMS to talk to the SI 6048's though.
I have checked the pinout from db9 to rj45, the terminator...
Hi All,
Thinking of doing this with (whole house backup + grid tie with transfer switch) 2SI and 2SB. I'll be grid tied with net metering 99.9%, and backup for the rest. I also want the option to go "whole house" off grid for extended periods if required.
2 things holding me back. SMA says 100AH...
I have an 80 gallon indirect hot water heater that runs off a circulator from the oil burner.
Would like to keep the oil as backup, how are you guys configuring your electric helper tanks to use excess solar production? I should have many kw available once the battery is charged.
Thx
Lfp battery primarily used as backup will be float charged indefinitely at 3.370v/cell Why not have the balancer active at this voltage? The charts I can find show this as a safe and fully charged condition for LFP. If it takes days or weeks to balance and fully charge at this voltage it's no...
Sunny island manual is silent on precharging, and the 48v circuit breaker in the unit does not appear to have a precharger.
Do I need to use a precharger on this?
Using a REC BMS with DC contactor.
Thanks
Hi All,
I have 400' of 2" PVC in the trench to go from the array to the inverter in the walkout basement.
Metal raceway is required inside the dwelling. How do I make this transition?
Was thinking a PVC LB, but can't see how to transition to EMT out the rear.
Would like to transition to 3/4"...
Anyone familiar with selling SRECs?
Looks like NH installs may be eligible to sell to the MA market which has been running $300/MWH. For my system this would be $6000/yr income. Pretty sweet if doable. For a DIY grid tie system thats a 3 year payback just selling SRECs.
Probably need to install...
Ground mount is 450' from the garage.
3 PV strings on the one mount, run to 3 separate string inverters in the garage. 6 #10awg to do this.
Do I need one #10awg ground conductor from the mount, which goes to a bar in the wiring trough and splits to each inverter, or do I need 3#10awg grounds...
The Inverter Source Requirement Document of ISO New England requires that FREQ-Watts setting be off.
This completely undoes my whole scheme of on/off grid with sunny island and sunny boy inverters. Anyone on the iso ne grid doing freq-watt control? Any tips to get them to accept this setting...
Under this scenario the REC can be calling for a charge current as low as .8 amps, the Sunny Boys are ripping at 5+kw to supply the load ( oven, dryer etc). What happens when the load switches off? Where does the power go? Actually I don't care where the power goes as long as nothing breaks...
As I understand these batteries both calendar age out at 10 years. Let me know if this is wrong.
So if the LF280 is cycled 100% daily (it won't be) it would still calendar age out at around 10 years.
Why pay 30% more for LF280K?
Thx
I have a REC BMS and 2 sunny islands master slaved for 240v. I expect these will work flawlessly together based on reports here.
Is it possible to add another charge controller that will also listen to the REC?
I have 2 extra 415w panels in the array. Thinking of hooking these to a midnite...
I will be using sunny island/ sunny boy with rec bms which requires a shunt.
I also want to keep the SI and SB off the internet for the most part. It looks like the victron smart shunt has a decent remote viewing page with the RPi and VenusOS.
My question is can the victron shunt sense terminals...
