Half price electric cars

Why skip over hybrids?

Make the tax credits and all that BS available for hybrid vehicles.

That would save a crapload of fuel and make for a nice transition as battery technology improves.
Who skipped over them? You? We already have a hybrid. The electric portion is fantastic.

Here’s a full breakdown of electric vehicle registrations in the United States. Maybe one day the tiny minority will be the majority, but not right now and not for a long, long time. But I digress!!!

Washington state boy here.

I kid you not, over 60% of the vehicles on the arterial to my house are Teslas.

They really need to come out with some different colors and at least update the appearance.

No one said it was awful, we are just tired of not being listened to when we lay out the reasons why they won't work for our particular needs and will end up increasing the cost of electricity for everyone.

Remember CFL bulbs?

If battery technology is about to take another leap then a crap load of money has been wasted developing lithium and lipo4 batteries and getting cars equipped with those kinds of batteries as well as all the money that's been wasted developing lithium miner and manufacturering.
So, let's just wait until EVs are the perfect solution for everyone before anyone can get them? Is that it?

There still isn't an EV that works for me. BUT I want them to get better, and become more affordable for everyone. And that can't happen if all we do is make excuses instead of ask manufacturers to do better.

I seriously don't understand the hate. If you don't want one, don't get one. Goodnight.

Not to be a party pooper but on here we have threads telling us not to charge our batteries at rates higher than .3C.

Yet we are expecting to be able to supercharge our lipo4 electric car without nuking its battery life?
Vehicle banks are usually water cooled, and temperature protected.
And high C rate cells are specced.

.3C on a 40C battery isnt too difficult.

90kWh banks around 400V thats what? 225Ah? So.3C would be 75A or 30kW charging...

My math likely is off though.

The 350kW dc fast chargers need 800V batteries to go that fast...
I think they are around 60A...

Well 90% of the hybrids are what I consider a poor excuse for a joke. Bad joke at that.

Not all but 90% of them.

When the battery is good for 25 mph and less parking lot maneuvers or red light to red light runs then what is the point in all of that weight. Just go gas.

If it can't run on the battery at interstate speeds it was a dumb idea to start with my my opinion. Which everyone is entitled to their own but that's my problem with most hybrids.

The toyota rav4 prime is a real hybrid that works with it being able to run up to 75 mph on the battery alone. Prius isn't. Just as an example.

Mostly correct but stop and go city driving is where most vehicles spend their time and hence where fuel is wasted.

If one is trying to save money on fuel and reduce emissions, the hybrid does that quite wonderfully without any of the downsides of an EV only vehicle.

Plug-in hybrid is even better, IMO. There is nothing to "poo poo" there.

This perfection assumes the ICE vehicles are perfect.

Most that prefer an EV have driven both EV & ICE. Of the few that go back it seems most were not prepared with available home charging.

Those that really resist for all the made up reasons it seems very few have spent 30 days in an EV.

Right up to the point the Government says “Nope you can’t have an ICE vehicle anymore.”

9 states already banning ICE vehicles after a certain date.
How long before it’s all 50?

That’s the problem.

You can make all the nonsense claims you want but it’s being FORCED upon us.
That is the issue.
Always will be.

Who on here has said that?

" I seriously don't understand the hate."
Again, where is this hate? Seriously, it's like talking to a 3 year old with add.

I'm just glad all you EV haters weren't around when we were trying to win WWII, or build the interstate highway system, or send people to the moon.
Nearly every person in those situations would have been an EV hater. EV's had failed long before any of the above mentioned events.

Yup, it took COMBINING electric motors with ice motors for ice vehicles to jump ahead of the pack.
The vast majority of 1900-1915 gasoline cars had hand crank starting… prone to injuring the driver before they got in the car! An electric starter motor ended that drawback, and ice took off.
Now that battery tech has made ev feasible, they are gaining a foothold over ice.

I sure wish I had one… maybe someday I will start building mine…

There are lots of changes that are good. We can look back and wonder, how was that ever ok? But any forced change that was ever needed directly affected people in an immediate way. Slaves, smoking, civil rights.....

We are talking about forced change based on one side's point of view that doesn't directly have an immediate effect on people, nor can we ever know how much it even impacts the environment.
I don't know how old you are but I remember a time when Air Conditioning was not really needed in the Summer. We had it in the house but very rarely used it.
I also remember it snowing before Christmas and the rain falling in the rainy season.
Today AC is not optional during the summer!

We had 25 years of people even denying that Climate Change was even happening.
Now there is really no one left that is doubting Climate change. Just people trying to come up with other excuses about why it is happening other than the "Elephant in the room" levels of CO2 in the Atmosphere.
If your waiting for some kind of public consensus on what to do then we will be stuck in this problem until it's way too late to reverse or slow it down.

I don't have a problem with making changes to better the planet. My issue is in acting like we have 10 years to do it.
One thing I DO know about climate change is that it's cyclical, with or without us.

And obviously, you are MUCH more likely to find a gas station sooner than a charging station. That's just reality at this point. Every exit, every town, you can find a gas station.
And every house, every gas station, every store and every parking facility has an outlet. That's just reality.
