Guys, I talked about the ground for the battery cases. Each battery case has a screw hole for a ground on the removable face plate.
But I see a problem because the screw holes are painted. And the whole face plate is painted so the face place most likely doesn't make a good connection with the rest of the case.
My batteries never had a ground when I had them set up without the case so I am not supper worried about this but if I am going to set up a ground for each battery, I want to do it right.
Are you guys doing anything about these issues I mentioned about the ground screw hole being painted and the fact that the faceplate with the ground hole is painted and doesn't make a connection with the rest of the case?

Well, 3 options, depending on how OCD you wanna be.
1) Make conductive connected for the case components so they are all physically bonded, then use a Self Tapping screw with serrated washer for the ground screw and run a ground lead from that to a proper "earth ground".
2) Just use a larger screw to clean the threads out with a lock/serrated washer and wire the ground, the case is likely already bonded (somewhat) because they are metal & screwed together.
3) Ignore it and continue onwards.
I have been pondering this very issue for a while. All my previous packs have never been grounded as such, given that the cases were made out of 3/4" Furniture Grade plywood. My update setup uses a Metal Shelf with composite shelves, it's completely isolated as the floor of the Powerhouse is covered with 3/4" thick rubber Horse Stall Matt... (Seemed a sensible notion due to all the power in there & the possibility of wet exists.) OKAY call it cheap insurance.

Same here. In this case with my portable build. The Multiplus handles neutral to ground bonding internally based on whether it is connected to grid or stand alone.

Thanks for the thorough reply Steve.
I found a 4mm tap and ran it through the ground holes. It cleaned the paint out of the threads.
I will go to ACE hardware and see if I can find 4 mm screws with a flat head and I will get some serrated washers.
I will also try to make sure the face plate is making a connection to the main case.
The ground wire is going to be kind of ugly running across the front face of all of the batteries. I could make the ground work on the back of batteries.
I want my system to be safe and easy to understand for my wife and anyone else who needs to work on it when I'm not around.
I too have cancer and I am not expected to live much longer. My doctor says I could live a few more years. But when I look up my cancer on the internet it says my chances of living 5 years are almost non existent. My wife has been very good for me and I don't like leaving her alone.
My cancer treatment makes me sleep a lot and I often have trouble getting motivated to do anything. You are an inspiration because you always stay busy and you seem very motivated.

I hope the you are able to beat the odds you were reading about. The good news is that each year you can stick with us, there are good chances for new developments that can keep you around even more. When my uncle found out he had multiple myeloma cancer, the 5 year oods were almost 0%. But every few years a new experimental drug came out and often seemed to help. Now the there is about a 60% chance of surviving 5 years.
My uncle made it almost 17 years after his diagnosis where, at the time they gave him about a year.
Keep optimistic and live your best.

I am curious if your thoughts on grounding the steel cases are any different in an RV?
I am getting the same steel cases from Amy as many of you have in 24V 304Ah batteries with the new JK BMS. This will be tied into dual Victon 24/3000 Multiplus I system.
It seems like It would be important, but is there an issue like with generators where you need to be careful of being bonded when you should have a floating neutral?

Yeah I used Starlock stainless serrated washers for the ground screws and also spun around a tiny bit of sandpaper on the face, but there wasn't much paint on my threads.
My Luyaun boxes are close to the main hull bond in the my steel barge so it was easy enough and a good idea to do.

Started the conversation to order a single 8s case with single terminals, with 200a jk BMS (non inverter) and 8 280kv3 cells. I’m almost half ass curious if I ordered two cases if it’s be worth my time.
This will pair with my custom built 8s 230ah case for a minimal off grid camp with a MPII 3k inverter.

This will bring me up to 11kwhr for storage (8s230ah and now this 8s280ah) at the camp where biggest load will be a hair drier and coffee pot at the same time.
This second battery will be complete overkill. Right now I only have 340w of solar that will trickle charge when we’re not there.

I would have thought shipping would eat up savings on a single battery, but your price is still $250 less than the 230Aah that LiTime is selling. Good to know!
My 230ah cells were 120 a pop delivered from back in spring 2022, lol, so it’s almost like this case is free and I’m getting 280s!
I will prob have another $250 in other odds and ends to make myself happy, might as a USB charger and a class T or MRBF internal fuse, but still it’ll be a much nicer package than my custom Baltic birch box my 230ah case is.

Thanks for the positive thoughts guys. My current doctor is very positive and he says the new odds are much better than what the internet says. I am pretty good at keeping a positive attitude but I have to prepare for all possibilities. I am 66 years old and have lived a good life so it's all good.
