It was not an issue because none of that stuff ever crossed our minds. You watch people today with their kids and it's like the kids are mini adults and need to be consulted and massaged to make sure they are ok with everything. We also have become so scared of having something happen to our children that we put them in a bubble where they get very little real world exposure.

Secondly we spoil them rotten, my nieces and nephews expect a new iPhone or iPad for Christmas! When I was kid the best you could possibly hope for was a $40 walkie Talkie from Radio Shack or Lafayette. Most of the time it was just plain old clothes.

Social Media is another destroyer of children. Interacting online makes kids dumb when it comes to learning about consequences. Anyone that was a teen before the Internet age remembers all to well that a misspoken word or insult could have immediate effects on ones health. You learned the social arts to survive as a kid and were completely prepared when you became an adult. Today they say anything in the virtual world and face no consequences.

One of the big benefits of being raised the old fashion way was that when you reached a certain age and you were feeling your Oats, you were quickly put back in your place by your parents. This was a driving factor in making you want to get ahead in life, move out of the house get a Job and become independent.

Rock salt my man... it worked in the 70's and 80's quite sure the sting of some rock salt under your hide will still work fine as a deterrent.

I don't mind neighboring kids playing in my yard, but anybody trying to sell some crap at my front door needs a beating. They all get a verbal trespass warning. If they ever come back, I can get them arrested. A verbal trespass notification is the only way to keep them from showing up regularly.
 
Forgive the ramble, but I can only read so much nonsense without a response. So, I grew up in a lefty but capitalist household. My family goes back to the pre-revolutionary days and I had a Great^n Uncle with John Stark at the rail fence. My family still owns that original homestead. I got a huge head start in life because 10 generations of reasonably smart people stood behind me. That is privilege. And it was that privilege that let me make a mistake or two when I was young and still get ahead in life. I have no kids of my own but will be passing my share of privilege down to my nieces and nephews. There are no self made men. Those that call themselves that, are Liars or Fools. I have spent about half my engineering career working for the military industrial complex , so Hey! I am sucking off the Gov't teat. Everything we are, is because of who supported us growing up, who taught us in High School, where we went to High School. I was lucky that I got paired with a grey beard or two early in my career, who actually enjoyed guiding a young punk like me towards becoming a grey beard him self. It takes a village, and I got a great one in so many ways. There are lots of kids who are flailing and failing not because of any fundamental flaw in their character, but because they got a crappy village. A lot of you are following the "I'm all right Jack" philosophy which translates as "Eff U buddy, I got mine!" if that were the way most humans viewed the world, we would still be bashing heads in with an antelope's thigh bone. It is in my interest that all those poor kids with no Dad's get not just adequate educations but really good ones. Maybe the cure for the cancer I'll get when I'm eighty will come from one of them! At this point in the evolution of human society our village is our nation. And our nation could do a better job at a lot of stuff, and that comes down to money. The GDP is not going to suffer if Bezos and similar types kick in a little more. I am a W2 worker. I get no loopholes, I have no way to shelter income. And what is on the check gets taxed end of story. Why shouldn't the ultra-rich play by the same rules I play by? Pay the same rates I pay? Or to you think they are better than us?

Wow. I feel sorry for you. It must suck going through life with that kind of mindset. I embrace life, and value the individual, not the village. I put God and family first, and prefer to use charity, not taxes and government checks to solve someone in need. I like to teach others to be personally responsible for their situations, and not blame others for their "privilege". As far as "I got mine", ask Hunter Biden. I pay about 55% of what I earn to the government in taxes, and then donate 10% of what I take home to my Church for charity.
As far as crappy start, I was living in the trunk of a car for a period of time, and had to make my own way. The only government check I took was my paycheck for my service in the Military.
Please do not preach your liberal talking points to me and other on this site, Like Will Prowse, who have no patience for people crying poor me to others about their situation in life. To them I say get off your ass and fix it, and ask a Veteran who has no legs how he feels about your privilege.
 
How about we allow both viewpoints and try to talk in a civil manner about them, or not talk about any political points of view at all. I'm pretty sure we all have different opinions and I sure don't agree with a lot of you - but let's keep things civil at the very least. I just post this here as I can somehow see this thread derailing (never mind the original topic, that train is long gone) - I'm not singling out anyone.

I don't disagree, but sometimes it is difficult to keep silent, though from Sanwizard's response, he and I are clearly talking past each other.
 
I don't think anyone should stay silent, I would like to see respect for opinions that are different from your own, no matter how much you disagree with them. Use arguments, facts - and be respectful even if you disagree. I disagree with a lot of things; use humor to lighten up the mood, and remember: even though we all have different view politically, this is a DIY solar forum, so we do have things in common as well.

Totally agree, that we should keep politics out of it. We are not going to change anyone's life view on an internet forum.
That being said, the topic was "get ready for the price increase", which is pertinent to this discussion, and politics does play a role in that. This is a US based forum, but its Global in nature, so politics is not relevant to many here. I will keep my focus on Solar here though, as long as others are not preaching their politics either. Getting away from Politics is one of the main reasons I come here anyway! I stopped watching TV a while ago, and even sports, as that was getting political too. I hope we can all find common ground in each other and especially in this fantastic hobby.

I just bought the Victron A and Victron B versions of their Canbus cables, to see if I can wire them up for MPP and Seplos CAN comms, and also which pins may work on the JK BMS.
Do you have the pinout of the tiny 4 pin CAN connection? The Heltec site has nothing, and I cannot find it on the JK site either.

Personal Liberty, Freedom and Individualism has limits and we have long since passed those limits when we introduced social media. Now everyone has their own Soap Box where they are allowed to spew off their non sense anonymously. The Right believe that everyone can make up their own mind so it's not a problem. The Nigerian Conman also believes everyone can make up their own mind and he loves that he can profit from that.
Very little difference between the Conman in Nigeria and the "expert virologist" who is Vaccinated but tells people they should not get a vaccine shot. As someone who's wife is in the Medical field, I she her get constantly annoyed by how many Expert Virologist have suddenly popped up since Covid-19.

I am an Independent, if you make sense to me I will vote for you.
Don't worry about the Liberals, they seem to be just fine, they don't seem nearly as agitated or grumpy as the people on the far right.

BTW I find it so Amusing that the Republicans are exterminating themselves and don't even realize it. The Politicians and Voters on the Right believe that Global climate change is a big hoax. The Left is saying it is not.
The fact is that California and several other Left leaning states with massive populations are drying up and dying due to water problems. There is already a mass migration of cash rich Liberals to other states. According to an article I was reading a few days ago they are already starting to tip the balance in certain Red Districts and make them Blue. This is only going to continue as the many red states depended on a low population of like minded people in order to win elections.

If only that was possible, the game is rigged in such a way that only the billioners can really take full advantage of the loop holes and other outlets to gain the system. It also helps to have an accounting dept and a legal dept that are creatively guiding you.

Everyone should pay 10%. Thats it. If the government cant live on that, then they need to stop spending. No more billons wasted. What we just left in Afganistan is more thwn some country's GDP.
If you make more, you pay more. No more giving a free ride to those that earn $15 an hour and less. EVERYONE must pay their share. Fair is fair.
10% of 100= $10
10% of 1,000,000 = $100,000
Who pays more?
