Are Signature Solar refurbished items a bad idea?

Signature solar refurbs are usually priced at 70% of new.
They don't qualify for tax credit.

If you qualify for the credit and you buy brand new, your are paying- wait for it- 70% but getting the longer "warranty" and a brand new product

Yep true. Tax credits do nothing for me in any case. Retired etc...

I have a friend who purchased a refurbished 6000EX in August and it's already broken (not charging batteries). He's trying to get a warranty claim going, but I guess the point of my post is that I'm not sure EG4 and Signature Solar have the same standard of quality when purchasing refurbished/repaired equipment as say someone like Apple. That said, you could still risk it, just make sure you battle test whatever you purchase before the warranty expiration.

Agree. And thanks for the info on your friend's problem. Hope they take care of it! Let us know!

Don't want to fan this flame too much but before I order, I'm checking around particularly wrt support issues and ran across this YT support experience video....the posts here and what I'm seeing in google and reddit are really chilling me to the idea of going with SS, particularly for refurbished. :(

Its in my signature :)

Rule# 37 - Loving my Sungold products more and more with every SS thread....
And here this entire time when you replied that after I reply a few times, I thought you were harping on me for beating a dead horse. I was using some urban dictionary/Reddit reference for rule 37

Good God, I’ve gotta get it together and start scrolling in landscape mode to see signatures more so I’m not so damn slow!

Oh and to the OP question: anything SS is a bad idea. Other players sell the same or similar items and you can avoid the hassle in between

I had been typing what rule 37 is out in threads over and over so I just made it a rule and defined it in my sig to make it easier :)

Signature Solar's business model seems to be "stand behind any new offering that we are trying to hype, but when things we've decided not to reorder have problems, ghost the buyers unless they humiliate us on the forums" If they are selling something that is revealed to have known problems they will stop stocking it, but continue to sell flawed units until they are out of stock and simply ignore any complaints/return attempts. Case in point, they are STILL selling growatt split phase inverters that have HUGE known flaws that where discovered OVER A YEAR AGO and have NEVER funtioned as advertised and illegally backfeed the grid among other flaws. They are also still selling there eg4 branded megarevo 8kw that failed virtually every review from the get go.

It seems to me like they are not a bargain if your planning on getting a tax rebate. IRS rules require purchases to be new equipment only. Best to stick with new!

I'm a member of another solar forum that has a 50 character and space limit on signatures. here's mine,
2 Kw PV Classic 200, Trace SW 4024 460ah,
I could squeeze another 9 characters in if I wanted. Just don't understand why they limit it so tight.
He was making fun of me picking 37 for the rule # and not 1 or something :)

Thanks for finding this guy's channel, don't know if you watched any more of his videos, apparently, the EG4 inverters have been removed for what I presume is unreliability in favor of Victron inverters.
