Get ready for the Price increase

OM effin G. Why in my day it was uphill both ways in deep snow in July! As a fellow old fart, would you all get over yourselves. I am a 60 year old engineer, I'm a grey beard, and once upon a time I was the wet behind the ears recent grad, and now I'm working with my 3rd generation of recent grads. Aint no different than us. Same with the young mechanics and plumbers and teachers. Our world is in fact better than it was when I was a kid. No ifs and or buts. Does some stuff seem odd to me? Hell yeah, Do I get tik-tok, hell no. But I grew up getting teased about my hippie long hair. In my 30s it was just another mullet (did I really wear one of those). I am so sick of the whining. Now all of you! Get off my lawn!

When shipping is more than the manufacturing makes sense to ship the manufacturing. They make car batteries here, why not Lifepo?
Well in the USA we no longer have major smelting of lead, we just process and manufacture things with value-added recycled or offshore new lead. So that’s a weird thing.
Add LiFePo to the mix: do we have the infrastructure to make the chemical component as processed from raw? Or is that also the ostrich-effect like lead acid battery environmental concerns (let other people take the risks and do the polluting) where epa concerns would take 20 gazillion-eons to satisfy?

I’m not saying ‘we’ should be ignoring the environment (though we are ignoring it vicariously now) but the slow, creeping, sludgy, bribe-ridden regulatory process stew keeps us from being holistic in manufacturing (or should I say returning to holistic meeting of domestic needs?).

The problem with promoting domestic homogeneity as my son-in-law or my other daughter would point out is that is ‘nationalistic’ and nationalism is a kind of racist mindset. I don’t agree with them but apparently that’s what they are teaching them in college these days? Or somewhere?
I challenged that idea politely and it was explained to me that I wasn’t educated enough to be properly woke.

So why don’t we manufacture here?
That’s hard to determine.

Another problem I see is that while some (many here) promote quality over time with samlex, schneider, and the like, the domestic mindset has evolved to replacement or “upgrades” (sic) in the short term so the cultural belief in value (comes from quality over time) has eroded to the point that “we” don’t accept a durable good because it is obsolete by opinion before it wears out.

Truth be told, we wouldn’t have the problem with new “400W” wind turbines that only make 35 or 40 watts, or inverters that burn in three months if people didn’t buy them.

So wise investors in the domestic manufacturing realm don’t trust the market, maybe?

When I was a kid lower middle class two working parents 1970s I found an old mower in a spring cleanup pile in concord nh. I got it running. The summer I turned fourteen I did odd jobs and mowed a bunch of lawns with that freebie mower. I saved over $500 to buy a brand new Pentax ME Super and some lenses.

Almost half the 16yo kids these days around here have an older car they drive around that they didn’t work for or buy, and mommy/daddy fix it when it breaks.

There’s a contrast that shows an industriousness decline.

Many things in the world are better. Culturally? We haven’t kept up…

So when you were a kid you could buy a car for less than that camera. Nowadays anything that runs is at least $2500. When you were a kid, you could maintain your car yourself. Nowadays, not so much. When you were a kid you could slide on car insurance. Nowadays not so much. Jobs have gone overseas because your average person in China works for 10 cents on the dollar, and doesn't expect to go fishing or bbq on Saturday, because they are working. All those textile jobs left the South (after they stole them from the North) because folks didn't think they got paid enough doing piece work, and the Pakistanis children were happy to have the work. I think a Nation that doesn't let 12 year old's work in factories is a better nation than one that does. And we are bringing refining back, which is good, and yes that will drive up prices. But as old Henry Ford says. You want an automobile economy, you got to pay automobile wages.

Suck to be Old, but ........Do they (young folks) know about the fastest growing cost when they are 60s?
Most of those increased costs are government created. If we opened more pipelines and refineries, and removed all the taxes, gas would be 25 cents. If we allowed internet based cross state pricing for medical procedures( capitalism), and eliminated all the lawyers, doctors would still be doing house calls on the cheap.

Yep I had a House and Car about 3 years after leaving University. Even better it was all paid for in full from the money I earned in just those three years. Use to be you could pickup a house anywhere from $30K to $55K. now it's more like $250K - $400K for anything in a relatively safe area. I did 5 years to get my degrees as an EE and CE. My total student loan debt was about $15K. My old man plus my odd jobs covered all the other expenses. Today it seems like most kids are left with about $200K or more in loan debt.

After my Generation made our initial money they got greedy, especially those of us in the business sector. They where not satisfied with a few million so the ones at the top decided that they could make more money by sending the manufacturing Jobs abroad. This was already facilitated by Nixon opening the trade with China and later by Reagan who created the biggest tax cut in history (So money could trickle down from the rich to the poor) and later Clinton made things even easier by opening up new regions to send more jobs to.

Yep it's one God Almighty mess created from the greed of two generations.

Why stop there, just empty the SPR and put full throttle on the coal industry again. We can get it down to 10 cents a gallon and electricity probably down to .01 Cent a KWh.

If we allowed internet based cross state pricing for medical procedures( capitalism)
We already do! There are companies like MediBid that do that exact thing.
You can go ahead and pick your surgeon the way you pick your car insurance company. I will stick with people who come highly recommended by my doctor and have a good reputation. Not the lowest bidder!

, and eliminated all the lawyers, doctors would still be doing house calls on the cheap.
Well yes Lawyers are a major problem up until the point when you need one, then they become your best friend.
Doctors are not interested in doing house calls anymore. Your watching too much Andy Griffith Show! Carrying a black bag and a Stethoscope does not cut it anymore. Not to mention who wants to walk into a strangers house and possibly end up on the news.

No matter what side of the aisle you voted for, it is clear from the candidate pool of at least the last three presidential elections that IQ has diminished - never mind the results?

We don't vote for persons anymore, we either vote for an elitist / globalist / socialist overtake with the consequence of losing our freedoms and liberty, or a party full with rinos and half-assed attempts to reverse the globalist agenda and related polices.

If I would be able to make the call, we'd see Ron DeSantis as president and Rand Paul as Vice Present, under an all new libertarian party, with a government shrunk down by about 2/3rd. The Feds would only be in place for any foreign threats. And on the state level I would go back to elected sheriffs with deputized civilians and a city counsel for every town, made up by civilians in good standing and in related positions.

No more lobbying, ever. Every voter needs a proper voter ID and needs to show up in person. No more excuses.

Sick and tired of the clown parade we have created over the past decades.

PS: and removal of any laws, courts and mechanism that have been used to manipulate the constitution!

It is possible the Chinese version of the GFC is unfolding right now.
Going to be a interesting couple of days to see which way it goes.

It's been happening since just before Covid but of course the Chinese Govt is covering it up.
You cannot beat having a system where most of the people put 40% of their income in the Bank and the Government has full control over the Banks. You will know when the clock is up for China, it will happen when the people make a run on the banks.

China is a giant bubble, by 2040 they will lose 10% of the workforce and have millions retired, plus all the overbuilt property investments, and they build to such a low standard all that will fall apart.
They are falling apart already!
Its been 20 years so they have already reached into the point of heavy maintenance for roads and buildings.
The biggest problem they have is that they have been creating job growth by using the money in the banks and worst yet they have been building things just for the sake of creating Jobs. Take a look at all the Ghost Cities in China.
The third issue is that they are using American 1960s form of housing aka high rise apartments for most of their housing. We already know that those create a domino effect of maintenance issues that eventually see the more well off people moving out followed by those who just can no longer take dealing with the issues and eventually it becomes a slum building for the very poor.

The entire world is in a bubble, and we are similar to Germany before world War 2. WW3 will be biblical. Be prepared.
fortunately my cabin is really remote, and surrounded by deer, wild boar, pheasants and trout. I am well skilled with a crossbow and my Cabin is solar powered! so my freezers will remain full and on... at least till my LFP's die :( then I guess I will have to join the zombie apocolypse of people searching for 15 year old canned food...

In those 10 years they will have bagged Taiwan, and our current administration won't do shit about it.
No, it will not happen it's just saber rattling by China because so many companies have left China and gone to Taiwan.

Taiwan is no easy target to take over, all males over 18 years old must do two years of Military service. I am not sure if that has changed but it was like that the last time I checked. Also Taiwanese are some of the most disciplined and patriotic people in the world.

The second problem for China is that Taiwan is armed to the teeth with surface to air missile systems and coastal defense systems. They have been planning for this scenario for several decades. The third problem is that China has no real method of getting sufficient troops to Taiwan in a timely manor. I mean yeah they could try but its pretty easy to sink a container ship. Fourth is that the Chinese military has never won a war and their troops are renowned for fleeing when things get hairy.

The main reason it won't happen is because Taiwan has a shield against Invasion. It's called TSMC ;)
TSMC is the largest semiconductor company in the world and they make the most advanced chips in the world.
America may design an advanced chip but the only place on the planet that can build them is TSMC.
The US military heavily depends on TSMC for chips in almost all or our planes, ships and subs cutting edge technology. Simply put TSMC is considered an essential Asset of the highest magnitude, one that the US military will never let China have or destroy.

Let me put it to you this way. The last war China fought was in the Late 1970s against Vietnam. (Yes Vietnam!) During this Land locked battle the Chinese sent in over 600,000 troops and 7000 Tanks into Vietnam.
They timed this attack because the main Vietnames army was tied up fighting a major war in Cambodia
The Chinese were so poorly trained and had such little motivation that the Vietnamese reserve army where able to
drive back the Chinese in two weeks killing about 20,000 of them in the process.

Funny. I always wondered about surviving after SHTF. Seems these days we are all waiting for the hammer to drop. Crazy times. I picture myself on the high seas away from everyone, sailboat wind power, watermaker, and lots of fish. Maybe a ball named Wilson. But I hate eating fish, so that sucks, but I dont have a cabin, and live near NYC, so I guess I am screwed.

This aint the 70's. And China knew the US would protect Taiwan. I dont think Biden scares them much.
