I remember having this same argument back in the 80's when it came to buying a new pump. The Australian one was something like $2000 and the Chinese made one was $300. We went for the Chinese one which worked and kept on working.Because idiots buy cheap crap that doesn't last, made in China, supporting their working force by exporting ours
Now there is no argument. There are also no Australian pump makers!
About this time all the smaller petrol pump units went from US made B&S to Hondas, My lawnmower is now powered by B&S with made in China on it.
Later the John Deer tractors were replaced by Case. Case the makers of Jeeps. Can not get more 'apple pie' than that if you don't realise who owns Case!
I fully understand your thinking but do realise there is much more to it to avoid the problems epitomised by Detroit using a singular example.
